Driver test results: Mizuno JPX850 video review

First impressions: For the first time in a long time there’s a feeling that Mizuno are once more setting the standards in driver technology rather than merely following them. 

There’s plenty of adjustability which some may find intimidating but that’s where the the benefit of a good custom fit comes into play.

Looks stunning at address, particularly when paired with the bronze Diamana shaft I was using for testing.



What they say: There is a re-introduction of Mizuno’s Fast Track sliding weight system in the JPX850 driver.  

The new Fast Track sliding system works back from the face allowing golfers to dramatically change their spin rates.

The JPX-850 driver uses twin 8-gram weights which can be located on either the central sliding rail, or two lateral slots. There are 10 unique settings for players to dial in their perfect launch and spin.



NCG verdict: This was a driver that both me (18 handicap) editor Dan Murphy (4 handicap) and tested and it worked really well for both of us.

I found it a joy to hit and it feels like a genuine premium product. The ball speed and distance numbers were very impressive and it looks stunning.


Some may be put off by the graphics on the crown or may not be after this level of adjustability. I kept it in the standard settings as it was working so well for me. A top class performer.
