The England and Middlesex opening batsman plays off six - when he's not hitting them out of the park!

When did you start playing golf?
I grew up in South Africa in Durban, home to some great courses and of course the weather meant I lived a very sporty life. I started properly around the age of 13.

What is your handicap and where do you play?
I play off six and I try and get a game wherever I can. I’ve been in Somerset for the past five years and played at some good courses down there – one of the best being Burnham and Berrow.

What are your strengths?
When I drive well it’s not long but controlled and gets me in play. When I do that I find my iron play good enough to get me on the green regularly.

Does your batting ever interfere with your golf swing or vice versa?
It can do but fortunately I understand the different techniques associated with the two sports. Sometimes when trying to push the ball I can play the good old push over extra cover!

Who is the best golfer out of all the cricketers you’ve had a round with?
Darren Stevens.
"Thierry Henry would be in my dream fourball – such a cool guy and I’m a big Arsenal fan." Who’s in your dream fourball?
Thierry Henry – such a cool guy and I’m a big Arsenal fan.

Have you played golf with any tour players?
No I haven’t – I’m still awaiting my pro-am invite!
