Callaway launch Bertha Mini 1.5 driver and fairway wood

Struggling off the tee? Or want more distance from a fairway wood? The Bertha Mini 1.5 could be for you

Callaway have introduced the Bertha Mini 1.5 in lofts of 12 and 14 for use as an alternative to a driver or as a fairway wood.

The Bertha Mini 1.5 in 12° features a shorter shaft and a compact head for those who struggle to control driver off the tee.

It will also suit the better players looking for a few more yards of distance from a fairway wood.

The versatile 14° option is aimed at a wide variety of abilities as it offers higher handicappers something substantial which can be hit from the fairway.

Both options feature Callaway’s full Optifit Hosel adjustability.

“Whilst in many ways we invented this category when we previously introduced the Frankenwood and 3 Deep, these products tended to appeal more to just the better player,” said Dr Alan Hocknell, senior Vice President of R&D.

“The significant difference with the Bertha Mini 1.5 is that it has all the forgiveness you would expect of a Bertha Driver and, therefore, will appeal to a much wider cross section of golfers.”

The Mini 1.5 features Callaway’s forged hyper speed face cup to increases ball speeds all across the face.

A forged composite crown allows for weight savings and provides a lower CG with increased forgiveness.

OptiFit adjustability offers eight unique lie/loft configurations.

“If you struggle with your driver, or you like having another reliable option when you’re staring down a tight par-4 or par-5, this is your club" Evan Gibbs, senior manager R&D for woods, outlines the construction and technology in the new Bertha Mini 1.5, and details the type of player that might benefit from adding this club to the bag.

“Who could use a Bertha Mini 1.5 in their bag? You and every other golfer.

“This is a new type of weapon off the tee for high swing speed players and low swing speed players alike, with all the features that you love about a driver (like high MOI) built into the body of a bigger fairway wood.

“It’s longer off the tee than our traditional 3-wood, and the head is 35% larger than the XR Fairway Wood to give you forgiveness and confidence when you’re standing over the ball.

“We also put in a shaft that’s 2” shorter than a driver shaft, and a cambered Warbird Sole to make it easy to hit.

“If you struggle with your driver, or you like having another reliable option when you’re staring down a tight par-4 or par-5, this is your club.

“And if you’re a better player who wants to hit it long off the fairway, this is your club.

“The Bertha Mini 1.5 could make you rethink your bag, because it’s exactly what you need for so many shots in your round.”
