FootJoy Traditions Golf Shoes

I have come full circle on golf shoes, perhaps it is an age thing, but when wearing trousers I want a golf shoe that looks like, well a golf shoe. So that is a big tick for these FJs. There is a but though, they are super light, and this is immediately obvious. Classic looking but they have the everyday comfort and wearability of sportier models.

They kind of grip the foot which gives a great sense of stability and the upper around the heel and ankle bone that are so often a problem with new shoes speak of a brand that has been doing for this years. I love how they feel on.

These are FootJoy golf shoes, and their natural habit is the golf course. They are so lightweight. They are effortless to wear and you feel like you could run in them, alright well maybe not run, but certainly walk a long way in comfort. I keep coming back to the fit.

I do not want daft amounts of padding under my foot, I want to be able to feel the ground, and not feel like I am wearing stilts. Again the modest depth sole and the high levels of stability speak of a brand-making footwear for proper golfers.

Depends on the 19th hole. At my home club of Alwoodley these were meeting with nods of approval that the golfing trainer can only dream of. I am not going to slip them on with a pair of jeans though. So I guess that goes back to personal preference.

PROS

  • A proper fit, like a golf shoe should fit
  • Trainer levels of comfort
  • Classic styling is a antidote to all the other on course off course carry on

CONS

  • Probs would not choose two tone

Adidas Solarmotion BOA golf shoes

The days of fiddling with shoe laces are gone forever. Adjustable comfort at the mere turn of a dial? Yes, please. Oh BOA, how have I ignored you for so long?

This is a tremendous golf shoe. In every single way. I received the white model, with a hint of orange in the back lapel and a green and orange sole, and they look exceptional. You can also pick these up in black.

These are remarkably lightweight. They’re also pretty flexible but have a stability and structure which gives you confidence they won’t be bending all over the place as your feet are shifting during the motion of a shot.

I was struck by the comfort of the insole, how they gently – but firmly – held my feet in position rather than allowing them to ricochet about like a bowling ball across lane guards, and I also appreciated the ability to tighten the BOA as appropriate.

PROS

  • You won’t find a more comfortable shoe straight out of the box.
  • BOA is extremely effective.
  • Great looks and easy to clean.

CONS

  • Nothing of any significance.

Under Armour Charged Phantom SL golf shoes

The molded EVA sockliner is a great addition for a quick slip-on if you’re running a little late to your tee time (we’ve all been there). They also offer a great sock-like fit feel which is extremely comfortable.

The lightweight, breathable knit upper material has strategic reinforcements to support your golf swing. It also gives this shoe a really sporty casual styling which made it catch my eye.

I tested these Under Armour shoes at a local heathland golf course. We were lucky with the conditions, but as can often be expected in spring months, some wet patches were encountered, providing a good opportunity to test their durability. Walking around, the shoes were comfortable and extremely light, weighing a modest 309 grams, which makes the fact that they kept my feet dry even more impressive.

To help further the stability in the swing, Under Armour have added a Rotational Resistance outsole for lightweight lockdown traction, this, accompanied with charged cushioning of the midsole, adds a high level of comfort to the shoe.

PROS

  • Very comfortable.
  • Versatile.
  • Modern and fashionable.

CONS

  • Not a traditional golf shoe.
  • Perhaps only suitable for summer wear.

Sizes: UK 7-14 (inc. half sizes).

Colours: Black/Grey, White/Midnight Navy, Harbour Blue/Black, Blue mirage/Midnight Navy

Duca Del Cosma Positano Golf Shoe

5 star review
duca del cosma best spikeless golf shoe

Before you even get the shoes out of the box, you know these shoes are incredibly high quality. The box they turn up in is excellent and comes with a white shoe bag to keep them in. This is a lovely touch; Duca Del Cosma has nailed the user experience already.

These shoes look magnificent. I’d be pretty happy to wear these on the course and then out for dinner; they’re so smart.

Putting them on I couldn’t believe how comfortable they are, this is largely down to the breathable ARNEFLEX® memory foam insert sole with recycled cork that makes walking really soft. The leather uppers are also incredibly soft and require no breaking in at all.

I strolled straight from the 18th green to the bar after my shoe-testing round and didn’t look out of place at all. All of Duca Del Cosma’s shoes are fashion inspired and don’t look at all out of place at a non-golf location. I will no doubt wear these as casual trainers and shoes to teach in too this year.

PROS

  • Extremely comfortable out of the box.
  • Excellent traction.
  • They’re beautiful, I mean, look at them?

CONS

  • Not the most supportive shoe during the swing

Sizes: UK 6-13 (no half sizes).

Colours: White/red/navy or white/cognac or grey/white

FootJoy Stratos golf shoes golf shoes

The inside sole of the shoe is a cork-like colour which is another nice touch. ‘Smart’ is certainly a word I’d emphasise when describing this shoe.

I was pleased with the fit and comfort when I slipped the FootJoy Stratos on, and my smile became wider when I stepped on the golf course.

FootJoy used “supple and luxurious” full-grain leather to create these golf shoes and this contributed to the comfort I felt on the course.

I felt stable and secure with each shot, whether I was attempting to hole a five-foot putt or find a fairway off the tee box.

StratoFoam adds to the comfort element of these shoes as this feature is meant to reduce “underfoot fatigue” during your round.

The VersaTrax+ outsole is meant to give you high performance with “wear-to-the-course” versatility and I experienced this first-hand.

The spikeless blue bottom of the shoe didn’t lack in grip when walking over hilly terrains and taking shots in thick rough (which happened frequently)

PROS

  • The White/Charcoal/Blue Jay design is very attractive.
  • The StratoFoam feature increases comfort and support.
  • The anti-channeling spikeless pattern helps with underfoot grip.
  • The cork-like colour inside the shoe added to the smart look.

CONS

  • Perhaps more favourable options at a lower price.

Adidas S2G Spikeless SL golf shoes

My initial reaction was that these shoes presented themselves as a lightweight, fashionable golf shoe, which I was really excited to put to test out on the course. They are stylish enough to suffice the modern golfer, whilst maintaining that classic golf shoe look.

Putting these on for the course ahead had me quite excited. They look great and reminded me of a prime Andy Murray stepping into centre court – only to be chuckled at after hitting my tee shot.

The testing took place at a local heathland golf course over 18 holes, where the weather was excellent – ideal for zig-zagging across the fairway. The stability of the shoe was just as required, the spikeless outsole features rubber spikes which offered good traction and support for a full round of golf. Adidas implemented the ‘bounce midsole’ which I presume is the technical way of explaining the shoe’s comfort – either way, it works for me.

All in all on the course, the shoes were functional and comfortable. With the materials used, I wouldn’t expect these to last forever, however more than suitable for casual golfers, or the serious golfers who enjoy a midweek 9 holes of golf through the summer.

PROS

  • Extremely comfortable out of the box.
  • Excellent looking.
  • Great support around the ankle.

CONS

  • Fairly easy to get muddy due to the material

Ecco M Golf Biom G5 golf shoes review

Out of the box, this shoe had a high quality, athletic & sporty look. There is an embossed performance leather upper with a mesh tongue which gives a modern and smart look.

Testing was carried out over two rounds in cold and dry conditions on my home heathland course. As you would expect from Ecco, the G5 was extremely comfortable straight out of the box. Although I’m not wild about the appearance of the boa, it really did give a close fit. And there is a whole load of hidden technology which combines to offer comfort, stability and rotational support.

All this technology really does work. There is a firm and slightly springy feel underfoot. The outsole offered excellent grip from the six cleats and hybrid traction bar configuration that Ecco calls its Dynamic Traction System.

There was no hint of slipping even. when going for that extra few yards off the tee. Testing was not carried out in the wet but I am confident that these will be fully waterproof golf shoes and breathable thanks to the Gore-Tex construction. A twelve month waterproof guarantee is offered.

PROS

  • Very comfortable out of the box.
  • Excellent grip and traction.
  • Premium looks.

CONS

  • A bit pricey.

Most Comfortable Golf Shoes 2024

Having comfortable golf shoes can significantly impact your performance on the course, allowing you to focus on your game and not your feet. With top brands like FootJoy, Adidas, Under Armour, Duca Del Cosma, and Ecco offering specialized comfortable golf shoes in 2024, there are plenty of options to choose from. Each of the seven shoes we’ve discussed offers unique features that cater to the specific needs of golfers, whether it’s plush cushioning, lightweight design, or breathable materials.

Consider your own preferences and needs when selecting a comfortable pair of golf shoes, and get ready to step up your game on the course in 2024.

How do we test golf shoes?

At National Club Golfer, we are passionate about producing accurate and thorough reviews and making sure our testing process is rigorous so we get a good understanding of how each pair of shoes performs.

Each shoe is worn out on the golf course whilst playing golf, so we can get an idea of overall performance in terms of factors like comfort, grip, stability in the golf swing, waterproof protection and how they actually look on the golf course.

What is important when buying Golf shoes?

When buying new golf footwear its important to know what attributes or features you value the most before deciding on a brand or model to buy. For example, do you want spiked or spikeless shoes?

A lot of golfers think comfort is paramount when choosing a shoe, we are going to be standing in them for 3-5 hours right? Some golf shoes on the market have special insoles and cushioned mid-soles designed to keep your feet feeling fresh. Also it’s pretty common for golfers with wide feet to wear the wrong sized pair of golf shoes so its worth getting fit properly.

Grip is vital to good performance on the golf course as any foot slip in dry or wet conditions can not only cause the golf club to swing improperly but may also lead to an injury.

Nearly all golf shoes will either be fully waterproof or offer some kind of water resistance, and this is important as real die-hard golfers play in every weather condition. Having wet feet for 4 hours is not and will never be fun.

How good the shoe looks is of course subjective to personal style, but is important to any player. Do you prefer an athletic-looking shoe, or are you more traditional? Does your shoe offer on-course off-course style or do you want shoes purely for the course? Does the style of shoe you like have the best color options for your golfing wardrobe?

Price is the last factor to consider. With the models above we have tried to find shoes at all different price points so if you want a shoe at a lower cost, you can get one. Or if you want to spend more, you can do that too. Importantly there is something for everyone.

spikeless golf shoes

What brands produce the best golf shoes?

All of the products in this most comfortable golf shoes 2024 article are picked from the brands that offer what we believe to be the best spikeless shoes on the market.

Do any pros wear spikeless golf shoes on tour?

As you will see on TV when watching the PGA, LPGA & DP World Tour, professionals wear both spiked and spikeless golf shoes, depending on their preference.

Some tour players are looking for extra stability and grip for maximum power creation that a spiked golf shoe might offer, and others are looking for the comfort and style that spikeless golf shoes offer. Some tour players prefer a running shoe style, and others a traditional classic leather shoe; there really isn’t a hard or fast rule as to what tour players wear.
