Is this the most absurd tee shot of all time?
Bubba Watson brings many and varied things to the game but, even by his unique standards, this was absolutely off the charts
Everybody loves a Toptracer, the tracking technology to show us all where a player’s shot has gone, and everybody particularly loves a Bubba Watson tracer.
In a modern world where the ball rarely deviates we get to see how Bubba goes about his business, shaping it here and there to occasionally devastating effect.
Then we have, with increasing regularity, players taking on huge trees to either gain an advantage on the correct hole or simply taking it down another one.
Then there’s this which will have had any course designer tearing their hair out.

The par-5 6th at Narashino Country Club is a big left-to-right dogleg which bears little resemblance to anything that Watson was doing. When you watch it, it sort of makes sense though it also meant he was playing across two other fairways which, from this view, god only knows how he would know if anyone else was playing them.
The real skill was finding a space between the tee marker and the hoarding and it puts to bed any doubt that you have to tee off between the markers.
In the end he made a par 5 before signing for a 75, comfortably his worst round of the week.
The only explanation that we got was a reply from the left-hander on Twitter: “I had a swing, so I had a shot (with two emojis) #urwelcome #HoleSignsDontStopMe”
When the Zozo Championship returns here next year he might find that some new trees have been planted…

Been watching and playing golf since the early 80s and generally still stuck in this period. Huge fan of all things Robert Rock, less so white belts. Handicap of 8, fragile mind and short game
