The Stingray model is a face-balanced mallet with a single bend shaft. This worked really well for my fairly straight back and through putting stroke, and I found it really easy to start the ball on line with the model. If you like this shape but have more of an arcing stroke the Stingray-30 offers the same head design but with a short slant neck hosel which adds more toe hang.

All models in the Cobra Vintage range feature adjustable weights on the sole so players can dial in the weight and feel of the putter head. There is a choice of five different sole weights (5g, 10g, 15g, 20g, 25g) which are easily changeable to personalise your putter.

I think the only slight disadvantage of this range is the models are only offered in 34 and 35-inch length shafts, which doesn’t leave loads of options for golfers who may want something different. Having said that, the adjustable weights do mean, it would be fairly easy for me to cut this down the 33 inches and then balance out the weighting of the club.

Overall, I really enjoyed testing this putter. I think Cobra has done a great job of balancing a more classic aesthetic (compared to the 3D Printed Series) and new technology to make a putter that looks great and delivers high-quality performance.

Even before the putter comes out, the headcover is a piece of art. The navy, gold and white design screams quality, and with a magnetised lock and fur-lined inside, it is high-quality.

Then you see the putter itself, and it looks sublime. The dark navy finish is sleek and stylish, while the champagne-coloured milled insert is exquisitely designed and fitted.

As an amateur golfer, putts do not always come out of the centre of the face. The Ai-One series helps with this, and it helps significantly. The AI technology used, similar to that in the Paradym Driver range, has been designed to help off-centre strikes remain more consistent in terms of distance. Obviously, putts right off the centre of the face will still go further, but the difference between well-struck putts and badly-struck putts will be minimised.

Due to how well-balanced the head feels, I also felt more confident over longer putts. With a longer swing, there is more of a tendency to miss the centre of the club face, but that AI technology continued to work well, with 90% of putts finishing within a similar distance from the hole (the other 10% being poor putts on my behalf).

When has anyone’s first impressions of a Scotty Cameron been at all bad? This putter screams extreme quality as soon as you get your eyes on it, and then that feeling is backed up when you first get it in your hands. I think the new I-Beam neck design looks great, and I personally prefer the silver dots on the back of the head compared to classic red.

I love that Scotty Cameron don’t overdesign the putters and keep them really simple. The blade putters look great and have done for many years, so there’s no point in making changes for change’s sake.

There are some subtle differences between this year’s Super Select model and last year’s Special Select. The new I-Beam neck design has allowed them to save weight and move it closer to the head’s perimeter, making it more forgiving.

The cavity dots on the back of the face have also had a slight upgrade; they’re now larger, meaning there is less weight in the centre of the putter and more near the edges. This doesn’t really sound like an upgrade, but as amateurs are not the most consistent ball strikers, it’s actually a good deal.

I had great fun testing the new Newport. I was practically skipping around the green at the Titleist Performance Centre at Woburn, knocking in 5 and 6-footers for fun. I don’t often think about the sound a putter strike makes, but everything about it was brilliant.

The new tech in the Spider series is the steel wire frame construction, which has allowed the engineers to precisely locate the centre of gravity in places to give the golfer the best roll. It also has a new Hybrar echo dampner behind the face to improve feel. This is the same material used in the Stealth and Stealth HD irons that removes unwanted vibrations on poor hits.

It is nice when brands keep in technology that works, and that’s what they’ve done with the Pure Roll insert that rose to fame with the original Spider X putter. Moulded from a Surlyn material, it delivers the Spider feel we all recognise, with grooves that are angled 45° downward to help impart better topspin and an end-over-end roll.

I really enjoyed the feel of the putter on impact, it is a lot softer than the TP reserve putter I am using that doesn’t have a face insert, and it also has a good sound too. In testing I was quickly able to get used to the softer launch speed and control distance nicely. The Spider Tour X is so stable on misstrikes tso you do generally get good distance regardless of contact point, which is the help we all need.

Right out of the gate, I love this putter. What’s not to like? There’s the White Hot insert that we know performs so well, the stroke lab shaft, which is stiffer than before for more stability, and a newly designed grip which feels fantastic.

The whole design of the putter has a super high-quality feel to it. You can even buy different material removable weights for the sole to change the balance and swing weight of the putter, which is a brilliant option for golfers.

The big story with the new Odyssey Tri hot 5k putters is how forgiving they are. Odyssey have positioned massive amounts of tungsten at the front of the putter in the toe and the heel to move the CG forwards and improve levels of forgiveness.

If you are a player that loves this blade design but wants that face balance technology to suit your stroke, Odyssey have released the Triple Wide Tri Hot 5k putter, which has a double bend neck and will service your needs perfectly.

The M47 is the smallest mallet putter in the new TP Reserve line and offers that hybrid between a blade and a mallet for those players who want a little more forgiveness than a blade without having a hefty mallet. The M47 also has the widest topline of the three mallet heads.

Initially, I was unsure about the lack of alignment line on the top line but I actually found it really easy to start the ball on line without this. I think the deeper cavity in the middle section of the putter helps with this as it allows you to frame the golf ball nicely.

The new TP Reserve putters are milled from 303 stainless steel, and feel more art than science. Each putter is individually milled, which takes around forty-five minutes for one engineer to complete, this is a very labour-intensive process to deliver the detail and finish you expect from this type of putter. Some of the detailing is so fine that you can’t actually see it with the human eye alone.

Overall, I think that the TP Reserve M47 is a great putter and definitely something that I am considering putting in play. If you are after a classic looking mid-mallet design this is a really good option.

The new HB Soft 2 ‘Blade 1’ is one of nine new putters from Cleveland for 2024 as part of their new HB Soft 2 collection. Each putter in the range has been given a unique name or number with this classic blade shape being designated as number 1.

Despite looking like a simple blade putter, Cleveland has vamped up the technology since the previous HB Soft range.

Each putter in the range is designed to have a consistent swing weight, regardless of length. The model I tested was slightly short; however, on putters which are over 35 inches, there will be a 20g counterbalance weight in the top of the shaft.

The HB Soft 2 range is divided into putters that cater for players with different stroke types. There are different neck bends to cater to those golfers with straight back straight through strokes or those with more of an arched stroke.

Overall, if you’re a player with a slightly arched stroke who wants a putter that will provide ample forgiveness of the face regardless of strike location, this is a great option. Retailing at £139 it is a very reasonable price for a quality blade putter.

The lines on this putter are so clean. I couldn’t tell you if it’s the two-tone head, the standard single top sightline, the linear rear wing, or the two longer lines, but standing over this putter, there are so many ways to line up correctly it genuinely gives you the feeling you can’t miss.

As a blade putter die-hard, I don’t often get excited about mallet putters. Too big, too clunky, too face balanced, and often with giant grips mean I’ve not had many last long in my bag. Evnroll, however, allowed me the choice of head style, hosel style, alignment aids, and finish, which meant I was able to order a putter that really suits my eye and my putting style.

My initial feelings were brilliant, I find that often mallets feel closed to me, which emphasises the pull that upsets me greatly, but the Evnroll EV5.2 just sits so square and beautifully behind the ball. I love the line on the top of the head that runs directly into the ball.

Sweet face technology is what Evnroll have called their variable groove thickness technology, which means that putts from the heel and toe will roll the same distance to a putt hit out of the centre. This is a huge victory for golfers as they a) don’t practice their putting and b) don’t regularly hit the middle of the face as often as they believe.

If you’re a golf tech geek and are looking to swap out your flat stick for something new, or just looking to invest in a putter that will help your performance, you absolutely must give the Evnroll EV5.2 putter a go. It is a bit pricey at nearly £400, but it’s well worth the investment. The customisation alone is worth the cost; it really is a brilliant putter.

This putter feels special. When you take the head cover off, and get a view of the precision milling, you get a feel for how much thought has been put into designing it. The design is so clean and elegant you almost don’t want to hit putts with it, but rather hang it above the fireplace at home.

Building a blade putter is harder than you think, as there will always be an army of traditionalists looking to critique what you put out there. The traditionalists are going to have a very hard time finding anything wrong with the BL22.

Once I had gotten over how nice the BL22 is to look at, I started hitting some short putts with it. I found it really easy to line up as all the lines and details of the putter sit very square. I vary between using a line on the ball and not, and either way I found it easy to point at the hole and knocked a lot of short ones in.

Moving onto longer putts and I felt like the forged 304 stainless steel head was quite soft, and I didn’t feel like the ball was coming off too fast which is sometimes what I see with heavier-headed putters. The face has quite an aggressive milling which is supposed to help get a better roll on the putts.

You won’t very easily find a better-looking blade putter on the market, and it’s more reasonably priced than the other brands in this same market. If you’re looking to update or upgrade your blade you absolutely must give this a go, you will not be disappointed.
