The best irons for under £350

In the latest edition of our trolley dash series equipment editor James Savage has picked out some cracking deals on iron sets

Our equipment editor James Savage has been on a trolley dash at Golfbidder to find you the best irons under £350.

We all love a brand new, shiny set of irons. Nothing beats that feeling of taking the wrappers off the heads of new irons.

But when money is tight, we may have to think about how we can stretch our budgets a little further.

We’ve teamed up with Golfbidder to find you some of the best bargains out there.

Golfbidder sell premium, used golf equipment from all the major brands but still offer a one-month warranty and seven-day no-quibble trial on all used golf clubs.

Next up in our trolley dash series is the best irons for under £350 and there are some absolute corkers here…

1. Best irons under £350: Mizuno JPX900 Hot Metal – £336

Best irons under £350

One of the best irons I have used over the past few years featuring strongly in our best game-improvement irons test.

They are long, forgiving, easy to use but still look and feel fantastic.

The long irons in particular are like rocket launchers. Even better players should consider these as the numbers are so impressive.

I’d still be using these now if I didn’t get seduced by all the new models which come into the office for testing…

2. Best drivers under £350: Ping G – £333

Another brilliant ‘game-improvement’ iron which can add some distance and height to your iron shots.

If you’re after someone which will perform well on mis-hits these are about as good as you will find anywhere.

With the launch of the G400 range, now is the time to pick up a bargain on the original G model.

3. Best irons under £350: Srixon Z745/Z545 – £333

Best irons under £350

The Z745 are one of the best bladed-style irons from the past few years.

We’ve seen Shane Lowry and Hideki Matsuyama using these which look a million dollars and have a superb feel off the face.

But if you want a bit more forgiveness in your longer irons then the Z545 might be the way to go.

They are both fantastic looking irons that have a fantastic forged feel.

Over the the past few years the Srixon irons have really stood out in our testing and it seems the ‘players’ irons is where they really excel.

4. Best irons under £350: TaylorMade M2 – £325

Best irons under £350

Not the prettiest but these are all about distance. Some of the longest around which we found out when we reviewed them.

Strong lofts but with low CG to really get the ball up in the air.

If you’re priority is power, not finesse and workability, and could take a few more yards on your iron shots then these must be considered.

5. Best irons under £350: Cobra King F7 irons – £349

Best irons under £350

These are barely a year old so it’s a great time to get a deal on the Cobra F7.

When we reviewed these we found they had come on leaps and bounds from the F6 model.

We’ve just had the launch of the Cobra F8 range so if you can’t quite rustle up the cash for the brand new model – have a look at the F7.

These have loads of shelf appeal, are long and consistent and have progressive technology making the longer irons easier to hit and the shorter irons more workable.
