Best DMDs 2017: Bushnell Pro X2 laser

Best DMDs

Tester summary: A super-premium laser with all the bells and whistles in a really stylish package. A bit heavier than some but we love the red display – which can be changed to black – and the vibration when you’ve got the pin.

Best DMDs 2017: Bushnell Tour V4 shift

Best DMDs

Tester summary: The Jolt technology, causing the device to vibrate when it’s found the pin – is a lovely touch. We also particularly like the way the case is designed in a way that you don’t have to zip it up after each use. Very easy to toggle between slope and non-slope modes.

SRP: £339

Best DMDs 2017: Bushnell Excel GPS watch

Bushnell Excel review

Tester summary: A really nice, clean and simple display in watch and golf mode. It’s fairly sleek and you’d have no problem wearing it off the course. Sync it with your phone for notifications and detailed course flyovers via the free Bushnell Golf app. A really solid all-round package.

Best DMDs 2017: Garmin S60 GPS watch

Best DMDs

Tester summary: A super-premium watch which is packed with features for golf and other lifestyle activities. Aerial maps alongside the yardages are ideal for new courses. Hands down the most stylish watch to wear away from the golf course. Vibrations for phone notifications were the only negative.

SRP: £399

Best DMDs 2017: Garmin G30 GPS handheld

Best DMDs

Tester summary: A bit of a surprise package – ideal for someone who doesn’t want to wear a watch but wants front, middle back yardages. It’s really small, fitting easily in the palm of your hand and pocket. But it’s best used, in our opinion, when attached to your bag with the really sturdy clip.

SRP: £269.99

Best DMDs 2017: Golf Buddy LR7 laser

Best DMDs

Tester summary: Compact and simple this is a really no nonsense laser that represents excellent value for money. Not quite as good at zapping a pin when there are trees behind the green. Premium case is a bonus.

SRP: £249.99

Best DMDs 2017: Golf Buddy WTX GPS watch

Best DMDs

Tester summary: This watch is quite large but it is surprisingly light. We love the different displays which can be changed with a tap on the touchscreen. Simple operation with just the one button on the side and a really soft and comfortable strap. Notifications from phone when synced.

SRP: £199

Best DMDs 2017: Nikon Coolshot 80i VR laser

Best DMDs

Tester summary: One of the smallest lasers on the market but a really clear display with a large cross to help zap the pin. Vibration reduction technology keeps the image steady. The price may put some people off but it’s a great piece of kit for the avid golfer.

SRP: £419

Best DMDs 2017: Sky Caddie Linx GT

Best DMDs

Tester summary: A great GPS watch in its own right but the shot and round-tracking feature is excellent. Tagging clubs on the watch may put some off but it’s very user-friendly. The Sky Golf app offers some great post-round analysis and statistics.

Best DMDs

SRP: £259.95/£299.95 (with shot-tracking)

Best DMDs 2017: Shot Scope V2

Best DMDs

Tester summary: We were big fans of the way the original model automatically tracked your shots with no tagging required. The addition of yardages is logical and very welcome. If you’re going to be wearing something on your wrist it may as well give you front, middle, back numbers as well as tracking your shots.

SRP: £225

Best DMDs 2017: Tom Tom Golfer 2

Best DMDs

Tester summary: Compact but sturdy. Automatic shot detection for round tracking is available when synced with the Tom Tom app. The vibration after it has detected a shot is a bit annoying and it sometimes detects a shot on a practice swing. But for use just as a GPS watch it performs fantastically well.

SRP: £199.99
