Andalucia Masters preview: TV times and betting tips
After the thoroughly successful UK Swing, we return to Continental Europe for a full European Tour-sanctioned event for the first time since the Portugal Masters in October. So who are we expecting to do well in Spain? Here is everything you need to know about the Andalucia Masters.
Venue: Valderrama, Sotogrande, Spain
Date: August 27-30, 2020
Course stats: Par 71; 7,001 yards
Course summary: This short, tree-lined course is an iconic venue on the European Tour. Host venue for the 1997 Ryder Cup, Valderrama boasts tight sloping fairways lined with beautiful cork trees. Smaller than average greens add to the challenge here, where accuracy off the tee will surely be important.
Purse: £2 million
Defending champion: Christiaan Bezuidenhout (-10)
Andalucia Masters TV coverage

Andalucia Masters betting: Each-way tips
Jorge Campillo (45/1 with bet365) certainly delivered as my long shot tip last week, finishing T7 at the Belfry. After securing excellent each-way profit, I am sticking with the Spaniard to go well this week. Campillo has a win on tour already this season and after a stint Stateside to play in the PGA Championship, has returned to Europe with two top 10 finishes in three starts. A T15 finish here last year is encouraging, and I still believe he is overpriced, so it would be no surprise to see him win this week.
Connor Syme (45/1) is another player who has secured each-way profit for us recently, after going very close to winning at the Wales Open. Syme is in great form at the moment, with two top-10 finishes in his last two starts, and his game certainly suits this venue. Syme is incredibly accurate off the tee, ranking 3rd on tour, and backs that up with a 70% GIR average. A win in Turkey last year on the Challenge Tour shows he is capable of converting great form into a win, and I believe he represents good each-way value again this week.
Adrian Otaegui (60/1) had a mixed bag of results on the UK Swing, with two top-20 finishes including when runner up at the English Championship. The Spaniard will surely relish the opportunity to return to home soil and will be looking to secure his second European Tour victory. Otaegui has some strong form in his home country, including when 12th at this venue in 2017, and I predict a similarly strong performance this week.
Andalucia Masters betting: The long shot
Maximilian Kieffer (140/1) arrives in Spain in relatively good form, with a top 10 and a top 20 in his last five events. Kieffer is an accurate driver of the ball, hits 69% of GIR, and scrambles well, which will certainly help on this course. A 5th-place finish here in 2018 demonstrates his suitability for this test, and at a huge price is certainly worth an each-way bet.
Andalucia Masters: Top tip
Robert MacIntyre (28/1) had a great start at the Wales Open following a strong performance in the PGA Championship. Unfortunately, the wheels fell off in round two at Celtic Manor making it very difficult to challenge. That performance has caused his price to almost double with bookmakers, so I will be investing at what looks like great value this week. NCG chatted to MacIntyre last week – keep an eye on that coming soon – and he said he’s not far away from contending for titles as he pushes for his target of top 50 in the world. The Ryder Cup hopeful will see this week as a great opportunity to convert, after three runner-up finishes last year, and he certainly stands out as the value play in the favourites market this week.
