Adams have launched their third fairway wood with velocity slot technology and claim it is the longest and most forgiving ever made.
When the brand first introduced slots in their Speedline F11 fairway, it seemed incredibly odd and, to many, gimmicky.
But the numbers more than spoke for themselves and now many manufacturers are incorporating similar technology, including TaylorMade in their new RocketBallz line.
Adams originally chiseled a slot in the crown of the club just behind the face to make it behave more like a trampoline at impact for more ball speed. But the second generation of the technology adds another slot on the sole. I’ll let Tim Reed, Adams’ R&D head, talk you through it:
“By placing a slot within the slot, we were able to create a thinner and more flexible structure.
“This creates an even hotter face than we had in the first generation of VST. We also have been able to improve launch conditions even more by designing the top slot to flex more than the sole to increase launch angle without increasing spin.”
Kenny Perry, who recently signed with Adams, agrees. He said: “This is the hottest fairway I have ever hit.
“This thing is a rocket – I gained 35 yards, which definitely made me feel young again.”
You’ll have to wait until March 1st to give it a try.
