He’s only gone and done it again! After an 826 day hiatus, Rory McIlroy is World No 1 for a ninth time after successfully defending his CJ Cup title. The Northern Irishman saw off a late charge from Kurt Kitayama to land his third victory of 2022 and first PGA Tour win of the new season.
CJ Cup
Inaugurated in 2017, the CJ Cup was originally played at Nine Bridges in South Korea, but jumped over to the United States in 2020 due to the pandemic, where it has remained ever since.
Drawing one of the strongest fields of the PGA Tour season, the 2022 CJ Cup will feature 15 of the top 20 players in the Official World Golf Rankings, including former winners Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, as well as World No 1 Scottie Scheffler.
Like last week’s Zozo Championship, the CJ Cup will only include 78 players and will not have a cut.

Matt Chivers
Now on the wrong side of 25, Matt has been playing golf since the age of 13 and was largely inspired to take up the game by countless family members who played golf during his childhood.
Matt is a member at Royal Cinque Ports in Deal playing off a 5 handicap, just a pitching wedge away from his hometown of Dover where he went to school and grew up. He has previously been a member at Etchinghill and Walmer and Kingsdown in Kent.
Having studied history at the University of Liverpool, Matt went on to pass his NCTJ Exams in Manchester a year later to fulfil his lifelong ambition of becoming a journalist. He picked up work experience along the way at places such as the Racing Post, the Independent, Sportsbeat and the Lancashire Evening Post.
