When is the… 2018 PGA Championship
The final major of the season and the last chance to pick up one of golf’s most coveted prizes, sets the 2018 PGA Championship to be the blockbuster ending for those who tee it up.
How will 2018 play out?
A brief history of the PGA Championship
The PGA Championship holds the honour of being the final major men’s championship played during the season.
Established in 1916, it is organised by the Professional Golfers Association of America.
The first PGA Championship was held at Siwanoy Country Club in New York 1916, and was won by Englishman Jim Barnes.
He received $500 and a gold medal donated by Rodman Wanamaker.
Every player in the field plays for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy, with the eventual champion taking home a replica trophy, for a year.
Originally a matchplay style tournament, it now follows a 72-hole stroke play format over four days, from Thursday to Sunday.
Winning the PGA Championship proves to bring great security to any player. Its ensures automatic invitations to play in the other three majors for the next five years.
The champion receives membership on the PGA and European Tours for the following five seasons.

Walter Hagen and Jack Nicklaus hold the record for most PGA Championship titles with five each – Hagen in the matchplay era and Nicklaus in stroke play.

Gene Sarazen is the youngest winner of the Wanamaker in 1922 at 20 years and 5 months old. With the oldest being Julius Boros in 1968 at 48 years and 4 months old.

Where is the 2018 PGA Championship?
For the second time, the PGA Championship will return to Bellerive Country Club.
The PGA of America has selected Bellerive Country Club of St. Louis, one of America’s most storied venues, to serve as the site of the 2018 PGA Championship.
The course was founded in 1897 and officially designed by Robert Trent Jones.
Along with Old Warson, Westwood and St. Louis country clubs it’s considered one of the ‘big four’ elite St. Louis clubs.
After its remodel in 1960 the course hosted it’s first USGA Championship, the 1965 US Open won by Gary Player.
Since then it has gone on to host the 2013 Senior PGA Championship and will host the 100th PGA Championship in 2018.
