Situated in the south of Cardiff in the direction of Barry, Wenvoe Castle is a yet another superb James Braid-designed parkland course. The club was founded in 1936 around Wenvoe Castle, a sort of old mansion-type building that was the home of Hugh Jenner, the club’s very first president. The course opens with a superb par five hole that sees you tee-off from an elevated tee to an undulating fairway, leaving you two shots to make the guarded green. Get on in three, or even two, and you’ve done very well.
The front nine can be quite hilly and there are a few tough examinations in place while the inward nine is flatter and finishes with a wonderful dogleg par four. The course is based on two separate nine’s with a large grade 2 listed clubhouse which was established in 1936. The building itself dates back to 1776.
