Shrigley Hall | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Shrigley Hall is one of several venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list that you will find in the English county of Cheshire. The resort plays host to a championship-standard golf course and a par-3 course, along with a 150-room hotel, Bazaar spa and fitness suites, giving guests everything they could want.

The championship golf course is one of the shortest layouts you will find on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list, at less than 6,200 yards. That doesn’t mean it is an easy course, though, as Donald Steel’s design makes you deal with water hazards, strategically placed bunkers, split fairways and plenty of trees, which are there to catch errant shots. The six-hole par 3 course is the perfect spot for beginners and for those that fancy a quick warm-up before their round.

The hotel has an incredible range of accommodation, with more than 150 rooms available for guests to enjoy. Classic Rooms are the standard, with a range of Twin, Single and Double Rooms available. There are also Deluxe Double Rooms and Family Rooms, while the Junior Suites and Suites offer luxurious accommodation options. The Feature Room and the Triple Deluxe are the best of the best, with the former having a free-standing bath, while the latter has three double beds, perfect for bridal parties.

The Bazaar Spa is the place to relax and enjoy your time at Shrigley Hall. The spa is split into three sections – the Bazaar Spa Garden, the Lime Grove and the Chapel. The latter is where the sauna, steam room, whirlpool and relaxation pool are housed, while guests can indulge in a massage in the treatment rooms at the Lime Grove. The Garden features an outdoor infinity pool, fire pits and loungers.

Shrigley Hall Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Championship Golf by Donald Steel

Shrigley Hall is blessed with a stunning golf course set in the 260-acre resort. The Par 71 course offers golfers plenty of tests, with a range of woodland holes and parkland holes. Streams, ponds and bunkers all come into play on the course, which measures less than 6,200 yards from the tips. Donald Steel’s design is tricky, and certainly keeps you on your toes throughout a round.

After a tough opening hole, the 2nd is a drivable par 4 and provides a great birdie opportunity early. Three fairway bunkers need to be carried, but no danger around the green gives golfers the green light. 3 is the shortest hole on the course, with 4 being the longest hole at 535 yards. The 8th is the signature hole on the course at Shrigley Hall. The par 3 is less than 160 yards long, but with a stream running in front of the green, golfers must carry the ball the whole way.

10 and 15 are drivable par 4s, both measuring less than 300 yards. The four par 4s in between are all less than 400 yards and offer up chances throughout. The closing stretch offers three cracking holes, and three holes that will test your nerve. The 16th is only 312 yards but with trees all around the green, going for it with your drive is dangerous. 17 is a dog-leg right with water back left of the green, while the only non-par 4 on the back nine. The final hole is a par 3 which plays over water to a green with bunkers either side. Par on 18 is a great result.
