The Belfry | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

The Belfry needs no introduction. It is one of the most famous venues in British golf, thanks to hosting the Ryder Cup on multiple occasions. The Brabazon is one of the most famous courses in England, there is certainly no arguing that fact. It is not all the Belfry has to offer though...

The Brabazon is, of course, one of the main selling points of The Belfry. Having last hosted the Ryder Cup for the last time in 2002, it could have fallen away from the public perception. However, the Brabazon remains in the hearts and minds of most golfing fans. The resort also plays host to two other 18-hole courses – the PGA National and the Derby. Both provide a different challenge to the Brabazon, with the PGA National being an inland links-style layout.

The Belfry Hotel offers a glorious array of rooms and suites. From Signature Twin and Double Rooms to Woodland Family Rooms, along with a stunning range of Signature, Manor House and Presidential Suites, there is something for everyone in the hotel. It also plays host to a wide variety of eateries, including the Ryder Grill, Rocco’s Pizza Pasta and Sam’s Club House.

For guests that want to relax and unwind, the Luxury Spa is the perfect place. The facility has a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and whirlpools, while there are also plenty of messages and treatments that can be enjoyed. The Leisure Club provides a state-of-the-art gym and fitness centre for guests that want to work out and to train as well.

The Belfry Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Three Great Courses

The Belfry plays host to three 18-hole courses. The Brabazon is the most well-known golf course at the resort, thanks to it hosting the Ryder Cup on four occasions. The Belfry is also home to the PGA National Course and the Derby Course, both of which have strategically placed bunkers and water hazards but can be scorable if you put your ball in the right spots.

The Brabazon
Could the Brabazon be the most famous course in England? It is certainly right up there after hosting the Ryder Cup four times, most recently in 2002. It is also the current host of the Betfred British Masters, with the DP World Tour returning to the Midlands each year.

The Par 72 course plays at more than 7,250 yards from the back tees, and there are plenty of water hazards to keep you concentrating throughout the round. Get through the front nine and you get to the famous 10th hole, where Seve Ballesteros drove the green. Are you trying to emulate the great Spaniard? Or are you laying up and playing safe?

The closing hole is also very well-known. From Sam Torrance’s putt to THAT Christy O’Connor 2-iron across the water. It is a tough driving hole, with the fairway almost perpendicular to the tee box. The bunker on the right side of the fairway is a safe place compared to the water on the left. From there, your approach must cross the water again to a three-tiered green, where finding the right portion is key to not three-putting.

The PGA National
The PGA National Course is the secondary layout at The Belfry and provides more of an inland links course for the resort. Also playing as a Par 72, the course runs at just under 7,000 from the tips, but there are plenty of teeing options for players to enjoy. With it being more of a links-style course, there are run-offs, cavernous bunkers, and plenty more hazards in the way of a good score.

The Derby
The third and final piece of the golfing puzzle at The Belfry is the Derby Course. Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas were the men behind the design of the Derby, which is a shorter layout at only 6,100 yards from the tips. It is a parkland course and provides a challenge for all golfers who take it on.

Situated in the centre of the resort, The Belfry Hotel provides luxury accommodation for those enjoying a golf break, spa break, or even some family time in the Midlands of England. The Signature Rooms are the standard offering at The Belfry Hotel, with a double bed, ESPA toiletries and more. They come in Twin, Double and even Double Double options.
