Son Muntaner

Son Muntaner

Son Mutaner is part of the Arabella resort, which has a staggering 63 holes as well as two hotels.

Comprehensive barely does it justice - and it is so convenient to Palma airport that it is arguably the lowest-hassle golf break outside Britain.

Kurt Rossknecht designed the modern championship course of Son Muntaner in 2000 and within nine years it played host to the Mallorca Island Skins Game, with competitors including Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer, Robert Karlsson and Jose Maria Olazabal.

Set in a typical mediterranean landscape, the holes are characterised by sweeping changes in direction and large greens that ask for a sure touch even if you find them in regulation.

They are immaculate putting surfaces - in 2016 the course was entirely refurbished at considerable expense - but they are so large that three-putting is a constant threat.

Memorable holes include the 5th and 6th holes, which have been redesigned following the original design.

And let me know where 'Na Capitana' - the oldest millenary olive tree in Mallorca - is on the back nine, because I missed it completely!
