Royal Waterloo’s La Marache is a beautifully-maintained inland course in the southern outskirts of Brussels.
It is an enjoyable combination of open and tree-lined parkland holes, with an impressive consistency to it.
Areas of fescue border some holes, but Marache is undoubtedly a parkland course with the variation coming in terms of how open it is.
Respected architect Martin Hawtree’s 2010 renovation resulted in La Marache receiving high-class greens to put and green surrounds that were more interesting to try to recover from.
The 9th and 18th are superb holes to close both nines – open, elevated and well-bunkered – in front of what is a brilliant clubhouse terrace. Chris Bertram
