Not much else needs to be said about the Champions Course at the Evian Resort. That is because every year it plays host to one of the five women’s major championships in the sport - the Amundi Evian Championship. Celine Boutier became the first Frenchwoman to win a major championship on home soil at the Evian Resort in 2023, and she is part of a stunning group of names to have been successful at the venue.

Along with the Champions Course, the Evian Resort also plays host to the six-hole, par-3 Lakes Course, which provides a lovely little test with stunning views over Lake Geneva. The David Leadbitter Academy also calls itself home at the Evian Resort, with all the latest technology available to help analyse and improve the game. TopTracer and TrackMan technology are both in use at the academy.

Just down the road from the golfing set-up at the Evian Resort are the two stunning hotels. The Palace Hotel Royal is the five-star option, while Hotel Ermitage is the four-star option, and provides a more family friendly option for accommodation. Both offer free shuttle services to the golf course for those coming to play a round at the Evian Resort.

Along with the hotels, the golf and the location, the Evian Resort also plays host to a Les Thermes, a thermal bath and spa which uses Evian mineral water at the heart of all its treatments. There is also a Kid’s Resort, with baby, kids and teenage groups to make sure that the children get the right equipment and toys to play with throughout a stay in France.

Evian Resort Overview | NCG Top 100s: European Golf Resorts

Major Championship Golf Course

The Champions Course at the Evian Resort Golf Club needs no introduction. The 18-hole course, which measures just under 6,700 yards from the tips, is the host of the Amundi Evian Championship, the only golfing major in Continental Europe.

The Champions Course sits on the shores of Lake Geneva and at the foot of the Alps mountain range. The crystal clear waters and the snowy mountains in the distance, the Evian Resort offers up some astonishing views while playing golf.

Not only is the golf course the home of a major championship, but thanks to a number of tees, the Champions Course is also a great test for amateur golfers. While the course closes for winter due to the snowy conditions of the region, the course plays beautifully throughout the summer months, with players aiming to recreate the history of the course and the Amundi Evian Championship.

The course has a number of stunning par-3s, with the first of those coming on just the 2nd hole. Both the 2nd and 5th play downhill, with the 8th and 16th also providing stern tests. The course plays true and firm throughout the summer, and is a stunning venue for a major championship.

Evian Resort Golf Academy

The training centre used by the players at The Amundi Evian Championship is included in a stay at the Evian Resort, with a free private shuttle that takes you there in just a few minutes.

The Evian Resort Golf Club Academy is unique, as it is the only academy in Europe that is equipped with both TrackMan Range and TopTracer Range technology, allowing golfers to practice with either system, however they may be used to at their home course. Along with the matted bays at the driving range, the Evian Resort Golf Club Academy also has a row of turf bays, all on the same grass that golfers will find on the Champions Course.

The Academy is also the home to the 6-hole Lake Course, which provides the perfect place for aspiring golfers to hone their abilities in game situations. The Lake Course has six par-3s, measuring a total of 968 yards, with each hole offering a different challenge.

The Evian Resort Academy is also the home to the David Leadbitter Academy. Leadbitter became famous for his work with Sir Nick Faldo through the 1980s and 1990s, and he is one of the leading golf instructors on the planet. The academy at the Evian Resort is one of 30 Leadbitter Academies around the world.

The property was built more than a century ago, back in 1911. Its original purpose was to serve as a family home. The rooms have meaningful golfing names including ‘Birdie’, ‘Green’ and ‘Swing’.

The Manoir du Golf has retained its elegance to this day, and the property has the feel of an English clubhouse to it, thanks to the furnishings in the lounge area. The location of the property allows golfers the option to practise at any time of day, thanks to it being situated right next to the Golf Academy.

It has an Anglo-Norman look, with 80 elegantly appointed rooms and family suites. The 4-star Hotel Ermitage welcomes its guests in with an open fireplace and cosy feel.
