Rudding Park Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Championship and Short Courses

1995 saw the opening of the 18-hole golf course at Rudding Park, one designed by Martin Hawtree, the man behind the redesign at Trump International in Ireland. The 18-hole course plays at 6,700 yards from the back tees and is tree-lined throughout, with water hazards coming into play on five holes, including four in a row on the front nine.

Water first appears in front of the 3rd tee, with another hazard to the side of the 4th green, at the end of one of the hardest holes on the course, a 442-yard par 4 which works its way slightly from left to right. The par 3 5th is played over water, while the par 5 6th has a water hazard to the left of the fairway, one that could be in play for shorter hitters off the tee.

The 14th is the signature hole at Rudding Park. Named Rhododendron Glade due to the blooming of flowers on the hole, the short par 3 only measures 165 yards, but with four bunkers ready to punish anything short of the green, it is a tough short hole. It is part of the Championship Course’s own ‘Amen Corner’. The final few holes are straight away par 4s, with the 18th ending in front of the golf academy and car park.

The venue is also home to the 6-hole Repton Short Course. Named after Humphry Repton, who was brought in to remodel the landscape of the gardens in the late 18th Century, each of the six holes are built to USGA standard and are replicas of par 3 holes from around the world (apart from distance in some cases. The penultimate is a carbon copy of the infamous 17th at TPC Sawgrass, at 137 yards long, allowing guests and members to imagine what it would be like to be at the PLAYERS Championship.
