The Real Club of Las Palmas was founded way back in 1891 and is therefore unsurprisingly the oldest in Spain. It is not on the original site though, having relocated to the hills between the airport and the capital city several decades ago.

There is still a feel of a Royal club in Britain to it, with a grand crest and oak panelled walls in the clubhouse.

And the new location affords stirring views from its lofty position looking around the surrounding hills and even into a volcano, Bandama, which the club is known as locally.

There are super views right into the bowel of the volcano from the 2nd and 11th; as a popular tourist attraction, you may well spot visitors walking down a trail into it.

You also spy a white-washed building perched right on the top of the highest peak in the area, which turns out to have once been the eccentric spot a textile owner used as the location for his business. The steepness of the winding road leading to it is illustrated by white-and-black checks like a Grand Prix chicane.

There is an impressive consistency to ‘Bandama’, with hole after hole of really classy golf among mature trees.
