Ratho Park Golf Club

Located on the western outskirts of the city, this is one of the prettiest parkland courses in the country.

It isn’t a long course so you hit a lot of wedges for your approach shots but the greens are notoriously small.

This tree-lined course is good fun with the four par 3s all excellent because while they are all around the same distance they are all slightly different.

The 14th might well be the strongest hole here, a dog-leg left par 4 that used to be a par 5.

It is situated five minutes from Edinburgh Airport and 20 minutes from the city centre but the tranquility of the course is one of its strengths.

The serene, easy-walking parkland is populated by mature trees and measures 6,003 yards (5,606 for ladies).
