Perranporth is a challenging 18 hole championship links course designed in 1927 by five times Open Champion James Braid, one of the finest golf course designers. Even after 79 years the original layout has not been changed, a real tribute to a good design.Perranporth is a seaside course and has an advantage over many other courses in that there are magnificent views of the North Cornwall coastline overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Even if one is playing indifferent golf, enjoyment of the game can be maintained by the beautiful scenery and bracing sea air. One should pause for a few moments on the 5th & 14th tees, where the setting and views are as fine as anywhere in the world.James Braid took full advantage of the natural contours of the land giving all holes an individuality and different character. It was easy to give each hole a distinctive Cornish name. The fairways are typical links texture providing good, firm lies for wood and iron shots to the greens. There is nothing artificial about the course, even the few bunkers are developments of necessity.Perranporth is an exciting and vastly interesting course demanding concentration for every shot and the more one plays it the more one likes it, low and high handicappers alike. The course measures 6272 yards, S.S.S. is 72 and par is 72 (card of the course). An outstanding feature of this course is the excellence of the greens which, although hard and fast, are absolutely true. This, combined with the excellent natural drainage, makes the course playable all the year round. Winter greens are NOT necessary and with the mild climate during winter, this means play is possible 95% of the year.Nestling within the dunes of the course lies the Club\\\’s very own residential caravan park providing an ideal holiday venue for the golfing family or society and at very reasonable rates.
