This is probably the course closest to Edinburgh’s city centre – it must be no more than three miles from Prince’s Street as the crow flies. There are are terrific views of the capital‘s skyline from various points on a course that sits to the south of the centre. Edinburgh’s top 10 doesn‘t offer anything but parkland courses but Mortonhall is slightly different as a result of a large number of changes in elevation. It sits among a variety of flora and fauna interspersed with mature trees but while it is pretty it is also a proper test, as befits a recent host of the Scottish Amateur.
Mortonhall has also hosted the Scottish Youth Tournaments and the Scottish Girls Under 16s and dates back to 1892. It is an immaculately presented mature parkland of 6530 yards whose verdant surroundings make it hard to believe you are so close to a major city.
Expect lush fairways lined by trees as well as whin-covered outcrops and super views across the capital, the Firth of Forth and the Pentland Hills.
