La Cala (America)

An impressive downhill drive off the 1st tee gives a dramatic start to what we believe is the No.1 course at this epic Andalucian venue.

You then travel back and forward for a couple of more sedate holes but then a cute par 3 and an uphill dog leg raise the tempo.

By now you are playing the valley floor and the views are increasingly captivating.

The steep climb up to the 6th if followed by you firing down a U-shaped fairway on the excellent driving hole that is the 7th, which turns round a corner on the undulating land of the America.

A stellar front nine closes with a cute uphill par 3 at 8 - a really cool little hole - and then a terrific downhill drive on the well-bunkered, twisting 9th,Mohicans ends on an S-shaped green.

The back nine maintains the standard on a course that offers clean sight lines as a result of the minimal housing.

A course of stellar short holes and a mix of strong and tempting par 5s, all of America’s bunkers have been renovated.

We have it as La Cala's No.1 but it could easily swap places with Europa, just a few spots below in our Spanish list.
