It is complemented brilliantly by the King Robert the Bruce Course, which opened in 2017, and the 9-hole Arran Course, along with a pristine driving range and short game facility, which also has an 18-hole putting course outside it. Oh, and it has the World’s Best Halfway House (four years running) as well!

Trump Turnberry Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

45 Glorious Golf Holes

Trump Turnberry is blessed to have two incredible golfing designs. There is the Ailsa Course, which has hosted four Open Championships in its time. That is complemented beautifully by the new King Robert the Bruce Course, which has been around for less than a decade. There is also the 9-hole Arran Course, which is part of Turnberry Golf Club.

The venue also has another key thing going for it. The iconic halfway house at Turnberry Lighthouse has won World’s Best Halfway House for four consecutive years, and that is something to look forward to if you haven’t started your round well...

The Ailsa Course
Trump Turnberry is host to the Ailsa Course, one of the most well-known courses in all of golf. The course gets its name from Ailsa Craig, a large rock formation which is approximately ten miles off the Ayrshire coastline. The course has played host to the Open Championship on four occasions, most famously for the ‘Duel in the Sun’ between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus in 1977.

The 15th and 16th holes of the Ailsa Course at Trump Turnberry appear in the book ‘1001 Golf Holes You Must Play Before You Die’ by Jeff Barr, showing their class. ‘Ca’ Canny’ and ‘Wee Burn’ provide great tests as you come down the closing stretch on the Ailsa, with the 16th featuring the only water hazard on the property (other than the North Sea of course).

The Ailsa’s last significant renovation came in 2016, with the creation of the epic par 3 9th hole. The closing hole on the front side of the Ailsa plays across the beach, with the Turnberry Lighthouse framing the hole perfectly. There were also alterations to three holes on the back nine, including the closing 18th.

However, that might not be the end of the changes to the Ailsa Course. According to new plans, there are going to be significant changes to the 7th hole, with this having the aim of bringing the Open Championship back to Trump Turnberry

King Roberg the Bruce Course
The King Robert the Bruce Course is a very recent addition to the Trump Turnberry portfolio, having only opened in 2017. The course was named after King Robert the Bruce, who was born at Turnberry Castle some 850 years earlier.

Martin Ebert was the man behind the design of the golf course, and he used the land to his advantage, providing the Trump Turnberry Resort with another world-class layout. Around the turn is where the King Robert the Bruce Course comes into its own. Through holes 8, 9, 10 and 11, there are gorgeous vistas out into the sea, with the 11th hole playing back towards Turnberry Lighthouse.

The Arran Course
The Arran is a 9-hole short course, with a mixture of par 3s and par 4s that can test golfers of all abilities. It is a good introduction for beginners to links golf, and the perfect accompaniment to the Ailsa and King Robert the Bruce Courses.
