Heacham Manor | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Heacham Manor was the first golfing resort in northwest Norfolk, and it rightly deserves a place on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list. The golf course is one of the newest on the list, and it is complemented by glorious accommodation in the form of rooms and suites in a 16th Century Manor House.

The golf course at Heacham Manor was only opened in 2009 and has been designed and constructed using the natural landscape to its advantage. The River Heacham, along with three lakes, provide the natural water hazards on the course, which is split into an open, links-style nine, and a narrower parkland nine. It plays close to 6,800 yards from the back tees and is a tough test for golfers of all abilities.

The 16th Century Manor House is a Grade II-listed building and provides the perfect centrepiece for the resort. It is the home to most of the accommodation on offer at Heacham Manor, with an incredible array of rooms and suites available. Classic, Easy Access and Manor Deluxe and Deluxe Plus Rooms are gorgeous, while the Manor Four Poster and Manor Suites add an incredible layer of luxury to a stay at Heacham Manor.

There is also accommodation in The Pavilion, with a range of Deluxe Rooms and Suites on offer, while the Cottages on the northern side of the resort can be split in several ways to suit parties of all numbers. The Mulberry Restaurant and the Pavilion Bar and Restaurant provide the gastronomic options, with the former being the fine dining experience at Heacham Manor.

Heacham Manor Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Two Very Different Nines

The golf course at Heacham Manor is one of the newest you will find on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list, having only opened in 2009. The course was set beautifully within the natural landscape and is home to many natural hazards, including two rivers and four lakes, and thus can test even the best.

Heacham Manor has a range of teeing options, with the championship blue tees offering a course length of 6,750 yards. Meanwhile, the yellow tees bring the course down to just 6,000 yards. The course begins in a parkland style as it is routed up Redgate Hill through established and newly planted trees. This landscape soon changes to a more links style with greater mounding, more shrub planting and raised undulating greens adding to the test. The front nine remains in a predominantly links style with three large lakes to negotiate. The first and second lakes are linked by a winding stream fed from a weir which protects the front of the par 3 5th hole. The third and largest lake provides the setting for the signature 7th hole. Also a par 3, the hole requires a well struck shot to carry the 100 yards of water fronting the green.

The 11th also incorporates the large lake which challenges you to take on the green with your second shot. The next few holes return to a parkland setting with excellent views of The Wash afforded from the 14th tee. The 15th plays from an elevated tee down towards the hotel and in full view of the terrace and conservatory. The final three holes cross the Heacham river providing a good test at the end of the round. The closing hole at Heacham Manor is a reachable par 5 but beware the Ringstead river on the left waiting to catch any errant approaches.

Glorious Accommodation

The variety of accommodation at Heacham Manor is sublime. The 16th Century Manor House is home to most of the rooms and suites offered at the Norfolk resort, including a pair of Easy Access Rooms. There are also rooms and suites in The Pavilion, while the Cottages can be rented out in a variety of ways, including single rooms all the way up to full buildings.

The 16th Century Manor House has six varieties of accommodation, including two large ground floor Deluxe Bedrooms adapted to become Easy Access Rooms. These provide a safe space for guests that require wheelchair access, with a wet room and handrails to make a stay as comfortable as possible.

The Manor Classic is the standard offering in the Manor House, while the Manor Deluxe and Deluxe Plus offer an added layer of luxury. The Manor Four Poster Rooms all come with four poster beds, as do the Manor Suites, with separate living space and glorious views out over the property's gardens.

The Pavilion offers the latest addition to the accommodation portfolio at Heacham Manor. The first floor of the Pavilion has both Deluxe Rooms and Suites on offer. There is also a selection of Cottages available, with rooms, suites, and full properties able to be rented out.

Great Dining Options

Unlike some venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list, Heacham Manor is blessed to have more than one incredible eatery on site. The Norfolk resort is home to both the Mulberry Restaurant and the Pavilion Bar and Restaurant.

The Mulberry Restaurant is in the 16th Century Manor House, with plenty of local produce, including locally grown fruit and vegetables. Breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner and Sunday lunch are all served in the Mulberry. The Pavilion Bar and Restaurant provides a more casual dining experience for its guests, with the first floor terrace offering beautiful views of the golf course and local scenery.
