Education City impressed our panel hugely despite being one of the most recent courses to open in the Middle East and that was reflected in its top-10 position in our inaugural ranking in the region.
It usurped long-time Qatar Open venue Doha in the list, a notable effort from this 18-hole championship course by Jose Maria Olazabal.
All fairways, greens, tees and rough were built in line with USGA standards and the greenkeeping staff have maintained that level of quality with immaculate conditioning.
It stretches to 7,306 yards off the tips, with one of the par 5s being seven yards away from reaching 600. Forward tees make it very playable though.
Olazábal has routed led the opening section close to an ancient wadi wall and this authentic aspect sets the tone for a characterful round.
“Along several holes on both the front and back nine, we continue the reoccurring riverbed theme feature – which, on occasion, comes strategically into play," says two-time major champion Olazábal.
