Staverton Park | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Staverton Park, or the Staverton Park Hotel and Golf Club to give the venue its full name, is a nicely rounded resort. The Northamptonshire venue has a championship standard 18-hole golf course along with wonderful practice facilities, a hotel with more than 240 rooms in, and a health club which features a gym and swimming pool.

The golf course at Staverton Park was established in 1977 and features over 60 bunkers and several small but punishing water hazards. The Par 71 course is just over 6,500 yards long so it is not the longest track you will find on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list. However, with those hazards and tree-lined fairways, accuracy of the tee is necessary to score well at Staverton Park. A driving range, practice chipping green and putting green add to the golfing amenities at the resort.

For those that want to relax or workout following a round of golf, the Staverton Park Hotel and Golf Club has its own Health Club. Inside, you will find a fully equipped gym with a range of elliptical, cardiovascular and resistance machines, along with plenty of free weights. There is also a heated, indoor swimming pool, a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room to allow guests to relax.

The Staverton Park Hotel features more than 245 rooms, with a range of Standard, Superior and Deluxe Rooms available for guests to enjoy. Each room has views of the golf course or the gardens of the resort, and comes with an en-suite bathroom, workspace and much more. The Grill is the main eatery, while food is also available in the Golf Patio and Bar. The Catesby Bar is the place to go for a nightcap following your evening meal.

Staverton Park Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Championship Standard Course

There is only one golf course at Staverton Park, but guests and members get to play on a championship standard 18-hole layout. The course was established in 1977, and features four small lakes and 64-American style sand traps to catch golfers of all abilities out. Staverton Park was one of the first courses in the UK to be constructed with large, suspended water table greens, allowing play on the greens all year round.

The Par 71 course runs at more than 6,500 yards, featuring four par 3s and three par 5s. The first of the longer holes comes early, at the 2nd. At 550 yards, it may well be a three-shotter for most, with three greenside bunkers lying in wait for any errant approach shots. The 11th is the longest hole on the property, and turns left twice on its way to the green. There is a stream running across the fairway around 100 yards out, so those laying up must consider that. The final par 5 on the course comes at 14, and at just 500 yards long, most will see this as a birdie opportunity, with some even thinking about making an eagle...

For longer hitters, the 5th could be seen as drivable at 315 yards long, but there are plenty of trees and bunkers in the way. Both 8 and 16 are par 3s measuring more than 200 yards, with the 8th coming in at more than 220 yards from the tips. Navigate all of that and you will find yourself on the final tee. The 18th is not the longest par 4 in the world, at just 350 yards. However, a large water hazard on the left side of the fairway and green will make you think about hitting driver. Avoid the water and there is a good chance of par, or even birdie to finish!

Glorious Accommodation

There is plenty to choose from when it comes to accommodation at Staverton Park, with almost 250 rooms available in the hotel. There are three types of rooms on offer – Standard, Superior and Deluxe Rooms.

The Standard Rooms are all beautifully appointed in a range of designs, and each option comes with either a single bed, twin beds, or a double bed. A workspace, chair, and an en-suite bathroom are also included with each Standard Room. They each have views of either the golf course or the gardens.

The Superior Rooms are on the ground floor of the hotel and come with patio doors and outdoor furniture to enjoy the sunshine. There come in Superior 3 and Superior 4 form, with the number representing how many members of the family can sleep in each room. Deluxe Rooms are at the top of the tree at Staverton Park, with the six offerings coming with a king-sized bed for the most luxurious of stays.

The Grill is the main eatery at Staverton Park, with a range of seasonal dishes and classic options. The Catesby Bar provides a luxurious space for guests to unwind with a drink or two of an evening, while the Golf Patio and Bar is the place to go for a light snack and to watch golfers coming in down the final few holes.

Health Club

The Staverton Park Hotel and Golf Club is also home to its own Health Club. Inside, there is a fully equipped gym, including both cardio and resistance machines, along with free weights. A heated 15-metre swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room add to the facilities.
