Meon Valley Golf & Country Club is one of the southernmost venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list, based near Southampton on the South Coast of England. The venue is home to two golf courses – the 18-hole Meon Course and 9-hole Valley Course. There is also a Britannia Hotel along with a Leisure Club which features a gym and spa. 

 

Meon Valley is home to 27 holes of golf, with Hamilton Stutt designing the Championship Meon Course. The 18-hole layout runs through an oak forest and has plenty of water hazards and strategically placed bunkers. The course has just three par 5s, with the first of those coming on the 1st hole. The venue also plays host to the 9-hole Valley Course, which provides a great alternative to the Championship Course, and has been built around the ruins of a Roman village.  

 

Britannia are the hotel chain that owns the resort, one of more than 60 venues for the company around the country. The Britannia Hotel supplies rooms for all parties, with a range of Double Rooms, Family Rooms, and Suites. Double Rooms come in four forms, while the Suites offer up the most luxurious of stays at the resort. 

 

The venue also has its own Leisure Club and Spa. The leisure club features a fully equipped gym with plenty of cardiovascular machines, elliptical machines, and free weights, while there is also a swimming pool, sauna, and steam room. Like a lot of venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list, Meon Valley is home to two courses. The Hampshire resort hosts the Championship Meon Course and the 9-hole Valley Course to provide guests and members with 27 holes of golf.  

 

Championship Meon Course 

The Championship Meon Course is the main offering when it comes to golf at Meon Valley. Designed by Hamilton Stutt, the 18-hole layout runs winds its way through oak trees, with undulating fairways. There are plenty of tests, with water hazards and strategically placed bunkers to catch you out.  

 

There are just three par 5s on the Championship Meon Course, with the first and shortest of those coming on the opening hole of the course. The 1st on the Meon is less than 500 yards from the tips and is followed by the hardest hole on the course, the 440-yard par 4 2nd. The 4th, 7th and 12th are all par 3s of less than 170 yards, while the 14th is more than 230 yards from the tips. The closing hole on the course is less than 300 yards and could be drivable for longer hitters. A short par 4, the 18th will test all golfers, especially if they have a good score on their card coming down the last.  

 

Valley Course 

The Valley Course is a 9-hole layout which has three par 3s, four par 4s and two par 5s. That tallies to a Par 35 course which runs at more than 2,800 yards long. The course starts off relatively easy, with birdie opportunities on the 341-yard 1st and 290-yard 2nd, both of which are par 4s. The hardest hole on the layout is the 5th, a 243-yard par 3 where most will have to play at least a fairway wood to attack the green. The par 5s come at the 7th and 9th, and the course can be played twice to make up an 18-hole round.  

Britannia own 63 hotels across the United Kingdom, and Meon Valley Golf & Country Club is one of those. With it being part of a nationwide chain, guests at Meon Valley know what to expect from their accommodation. There is a range of rooms and suites on offer.  

 

The Double Rooms are the standard rooms, and there are four forms to the Doubles at Meon Valley. The Double Standard Room and Small Double are the basic offerings, while the Double Rooms also come in Accessible form for those guests that require a room with adaptations so they can enjoy their stay. The Double Executive Room is a notch above the rest, with upgraded facilities in each room. 

 

The Family Rooms on offer at Meon Valley are perfect for parents of younger children. This selection of rooms all come with two double beds. The Suites are the top of the tree at Meon Valley, and they come with separate living areas to the bedrooms, with a king-sized bed and plenty of amenities.  

Inside the Britannia Hotel is the Leisure Club which features both a gym and spa. The gym facility has a range of cardiovascular equipment and free weights, while both fitness classes and personal training are available. 

 

There is also a heated, indoor swimming pool, along with a jacuzzi, sauna and steam room for guests to relax in. Massages, facials, body scrubs and a whole host of other treatments are available at the spa at Meon Valley, with a team of qualified therapists on hand.  

Where is Meon Valley?  
Meon Valley is a few miles inland from the south coast of England. It is between the villages of Shedfield and Waltham Chase, and within 15 miles of both Southampton and Portsmouth. 

What is the nearest airport and station to Meon Valley?  
Southampton Airport is the closest to Meon Valley, an airport which saw almost 2 million passengers travel through annually prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Southampton’s flight paths are limited though, with international visitors more likely to land at London Heathrow, which is 70 miles to the northeast of Meon Valley. Heathrow is the busiest airport in the country, servicing over 60 million passengers over 2022. 

 

Botley is the nearest station to the resort, just over two miles away by road. Hourly trains travel through Botley, with the service running between London Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour in both directions.  

What golf facilities does Meon Valley offer?  
27 holes of golf is not all that Meon Valley has available when it comes to golf. There is also a full-length driving range with both covered and uncovered bays. A putting green by the 1st tee allows you to just check those three- and four-footers before taking to either course at Meon.  

Does Meon Valley offer golf lessons?  
Meon Valley has a Golf Academy, where PGA-qualified professionals are on hand to provide coaching and tuition for all golfers. There is computerised teaching, with swing analysis and statistical data on show, that can help improve even the finest details to improve your game.
