Aldwark Manor | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Aldwark Manor is one of several Yorkshire venues on the NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts list, and you can see why it takes a spot. The golf course is sublime and uses the natural hazard of the River Ure to its advantage, while the manor house is home to a stunning range of accommodation and gastronomic options.

The River Ure features on several occasions throughout a round at River Ure, including one hole where golfers must tee off across the river. There is also a new water feature on the par 3 15th hole. It is not the longest course by any stretch of the imagination, but golfers will have fun on this 18-hole layout. There is also a driving range and short game area for those who want some practice before taking to the course.

When it comes to accommodation, there is something for everyone at Aldwark Manor. The manor house is home to most of the rooms and suites, with Classico, Superior and Deluxe Rooms being overshadowed by the incredulous Wensleydale Suite which is over two floors. There is also the Bunkers Annex and the South Lodge, the latter of which offers the self-catering option.

Dining is a key part of the resort, and there are also plenty of eateries. The Elements Restaurant offers local produce for gourmet cuisine, while the newly opened Chartwell Restaurant offers a fine-dining experience. The Bunkers Restaurant is a more relaxed and contemporary environment with live sport on big screens, while the Squadron Bar is a lovely spot to relax and have a nightcap following your evening meal.

The venue is only going to get better in the next few years, with a brand-new spa complex due to be opened in 2025, while the golf course is currently undergoing renovations to improve it.

Aldwark Manor Overview | NCG Top 100s: GB&I Golf Resorts

Golf by the River Ure

Aldwark Manor’s golf course is not the longest, coming in at just 6,000 yards. However, there are plenty of challenges along the way, as the course winds its way along the River Ure, which offers a large water hazard on five of the 18 holes on the Par 70 layout at Aldwark Manor.

Uniquely, the course at Aldwark Manor begins with two par 3s, and neither are easy. The second of those follows a lengthy walk from the 1st green, and is 187 yards from the back tees, with a green that slopes from left to right. The 3rd sees the River Ure appear for the first time, with the water in play down the left side of the hole. The Ure also runs down the left of 4, which has a stream running down the right as well, making it one of the more difficult holes on the property.

The 8th is the first par 5 on the layout and features water down the right side, while the 10th is a scorable par 5 at just 465 yards. Those going for it in two must make sure they get there, with water in front of the green. The Ure comes back into play on 13, with players then having to tee off over the river on the 14th, the last par 5 at Aldwark Manor. The signature hole is the 15th. A 174-yard par 3 which plays entirely over water, with rocks sitting in front of the green. 17 is the shortest hole on the course at just 107 yards from the tips, with the closing hole only just over 300 yards, and providing one final birdie chance.

Rooms, Suites, and Lodges

There is a wide variety of accommodation options at Aldwark Manor. The Manor House itself is home to a range of rooms and suites, while there is also the new Bunkers Annex and the South Lodge that add to the collection.

There are also Classic Rooms with balconies, and the Bunkers Annex also offers another selection of double and twin rooms.

The Superior and Deluxe Rooms add another layer of luxury and elegance to a stay at Aldwark Manor. The Junior Suites come with a free-standing bath, emperor-sized bed, and views of the golf course and Ure. The best of the best in the manor house is the Wensleydale Suite. This is a two-tier option with its own mezzanine floor, its own private hot tub and so much more!
