Alcanada

Alcanada

One of Spain's most scenic courses, with views of the Bay of Alcudia from the majority of its holes.

Alcanada was set down on a hillside on the north-east of Majorca by Robert Trent Jones Jnr and the son of the legendary architect - who has himself made a fine career in course design - was very proud of his work here.

Located in the quieter part of the island, Alcanada has perhaps symbolised Mallorca’s emergence in the way it is now challenging to become one of Europe’s leading courses in the 13 years since it opened.

With fabulous views across to the island and the iconic lighthouse from many of its holes, the course boasts pine and olive groves and a challenging test high on quality and spectacular scenery.

Has some quieter holes that prevent it from being slightly higher in our Spanish Top 50, but Alcanada offers a terrific playable, scenic experience.

The club takes its name from an island that can be seen from most of the holes, as can the lighthouse that is such a landmark on images of this course.

Alcanada's conditioning rose a notch with a successful 2019/20 green renovation.

The ambitious project was part of a €600,000 investment to further improve Majorca’s second course in our ranking - but would be a very credible No.1 were it to leapfrog Son Gual.

The diggers moved in at the start of December 2019 to relay all 18 greens with new bentgrass T1, a superior variety of seed used at famous clubs such as Valderrama and Golf National, in Paris, which have both hosted the Ryder Cup.
