Getting Your Set Up Right: Stance and Posture
All 14 clubs in your bag are different lengths, lofts and lie angles, so there isn’t a one size fits all approach we can use with our stance and posture. Some soft rules we might use are with your shorter clubs, your stance will be more narrow, and the ball will be fairly central. With the longer clubs, your stance will get wider, and the ball will move forwards towards the front foot. These rules are ‘soft’ because different shots will require different set ups.

7 Iron Reference Points
A big mistake golfers make is trying to stand to the ball in an ‘athletic’ fashion by arching their back and bending their knees too much. This gets you out of balance and too rigid to make a good fluid swing.
Golfers should stand fairly tall to the ball and when viewing from down the line, have their armpits over the middle of the foot; this would indicate good balance. Drawing a line down from your backside is also a good indicator of balance, as this line should be within a couple of inches from your heels.
Standing too close or too far away will mean you will have to change posture in the swing, which makes solid contact difficult.
