Tiger Woods made it famous, and now West Lancs pro Gavin Abson wants to show you how to hit a stinger.
There are a few key tips to bear in mind when you’re about to play this shot.
First & foremost, this shot’s trademark is its low trajectory. In order to achieve that, we’ll need to take loft off the club. You can do this by leaning the shaft forwards at impact and turn your body after you’ve hit the shot to achieve a nice curtailed follow-through.

Originally from Solihull in the West Midlands, Gavin started his PGA training as an Assistant Professional at Cocks Moors Woods in Birmingham, where he spent five years while playing full time on the EuroPro Tour as well as caddying on the European Tour.
Gavin then spent two years as a Qualified PGA Professional at Open venue Royal Troon, before moving to The Carrick on Loch Lomond to become their Head PGA Professional. Six years later, in 2016, Gavin took up his role at West Lancs.
