Ram FX-01 CNC Milled Blade Putter: First Impressions
This Ram putter particularly interested me when I was asked to test it as my current putter is a virtually identical spec but significantly more expensive. The Ram FX-01 is matt black and looks sleek. The shaft is steel but also has a matt black finish. There should be no issues with glare in strong sunshine. It comes fitted with a Ram branded midsize grip, also in black.

With a huge variety of grip styles and sizes now available Ram have gone with a shrewd choice which will appeal to most players. Similarly the larger blade will keep blade aficionados happy as well as being an alternative for mallet users.
The head cover is padded and premium-looking with a quilted pattern.
Ram FX-01 CNC Milled Blade Putter: The verdict
I found this putter easy to line up. It has a single white alignment line and is easy on the eye behind the ball. The strike and feel off the face was interesting. It has quite a hard feel and sound to the strike, even using premium urethane balls. Nevertheless it still comes off the face quite softly which I presume is due to the CNC milling. This allowed me to make a confident stroke without feeling as if the ball was going to explode off the face. Overall I quite liked the positive feel and sound of the strike.

Although difficult to measure objectively, my impression was that off-centre strikes were not grossly destructive. I did not experience any great difference between this and more expensive putters. The grip was soft and comfortable. I have recently changed my putter grip to this size so it was ideal. Personal preference aside, I think this grip will suit most golfers when they first use the putter.

There is really no reason not to recommend this putter. What was most impressive is that I was only using it for a few minutes before I completely forgot the price and was comparing this with putters 2 or 3 three times the price. If I was to nit-pick there were some very minor imperfections in the finish, but none of these affected the performance and were only apparent when looking closely. The face was perfect and this is what matters.
This is one of several designs in Ram’s new FX putter range so if this one isn’t for you there are others to choose from.
