It’s been the biggest news of the week. People have been talking about little else.
That’s right – another royal wedding is on the horizon.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that Prince Harry proposed to actress Meghan Markle this week.
Markle is one of the stars of the brilliant New York law drama Suits. But she is, of course, better known to golf fans as the girl Rory McIlroy dumped ice over in the Ice Bucket Challenge. (Remember that?)
Speaking of Rory McIlroy, the headlines screamed this week that he had written off $99 million.
That’s a lot of ice.
Anyway, don’t let the sensationalist headline fool you. It’s to do with his management company and a non-cash write-down in the value of McIlroy’s lifetime image rights.
He won’t be losing any sleep, he’s still got $50m in the bank – and counting.
Elsewhere, Masters Sergio Garcia is Down Under to play in the Australian PGA Championship. And this is amazing: He wore the Green Jacket to a dinner hosted by Greg Norman.
Sergio – did you not watch the Masters growing up?
That’s like parading the Premier League trophy around Liverpool. Or Andy Murray taking his Wimbledon titles round to Tim Henman’s house.
Anyway, here’s what’s good on NCG this week…

About the Slam
Founded in 2017 in a tiny green room in Leeds, The Slam, presented by Alex Perry, is National Club Golfer’s irreverent look back on the biggest news of the week from the golfing world.
It has since received rave reviews from the critics:
“This guy is nowhere near as funny as he thinks he is” – Facebook
“I wish he would get his hair cut” – YouTube
“WTF” – Twitter
“I heard him say Tiger Woods. Did he criticise Tiger Woods?” – Tiger Woods fans
“You look very handsome and I’m ever so proud” – Alex’s mum
If you’d like more musings from Alex’s little world, you can follow him on Twitter. Or don’t, that’s up to you. Probably best you don’t.
Want to see more episodes of the Slam? Then you must be really bored. Anyway, you can do that by clicking here or heading over to NCG’s YouTube channel.
