Although Tiger Woods asserted that he wanted to win the 2023 Genesis Invitational prior to the first round, you feel he doesn’t carry the same intensity that he once used to.
After suffering life-changing injuries in a car crash in February 2021, a degree of perspective was added to Woods’ game. Every moment he spends in competition on the PGA Tour should be savoured.
One young fan at Riviera Country Club wanted to take advantage of Tiger being in town and fill out one of the longed-for goals on her bucket list.
A young girl called Madelyn Quinn held a big sign up behind the 17th hole during the third round which featured three things as part of her bucket list.
The first one on the list ticked off was ‘Get Heart Transplant’. Madelyn was born with a heart defect and she has previously had three open-heart surgeries.
She is also an aspiring golfer and she was determined to check off the second part of her bucket list which was ‘Meet Tiger Woods’.
The PGA Tour managed to capture the moment Woods met Madelyn as he gave her a well-earned high-five and also a signed glove as reported by Colt Knost of CBS.
Woods wasn’t fighting at the top of the leaderboard with Jon Rahm and Max Homa, so he had a little time to relax his focus and say hello to Madelyn.
It is moments like these which make golf so great. At the sport’s biggest events, you can get up close and personal with your heroes.
Madelyn’s father Greg is a former PGA teaching professional and together, they have officially ticked off two-thirds of her bucket list.
Madelyn has just one option left on her three-part mission: ‘Play Augusta’. The home of the Masters tournament is at the centre of many golfers’ dreams and Madelyn is no different.
Augusta National has been a happy hunting ground for Woods who has five Green Jackets in his closet with his win down Magnolia Lane in 2019 being written into golf folklore.
Now Woods can only play sparingly on the PGA Tour due to the injuries in his right leg, but he can enjoy more moments with the fans that flock to see him and this is a prime example.
Watch this space to see if Madelyn makes it to Augusta National to complete her bucket list!
