The criteria for what is and isn’t allowed to be stored in the hold of an aircraft when it comes to golf equipment changes from airline to airline. But fear not as we have put together everything you need to know when it comes to golf club travel for all the main airlines.
We detail how to make sure you have a better chance of booking your golf clubs onto your flight, either for pre-booked flights or for those looking to start their booking process.
Let’s take a look at how you can travel with your golf clubs on each airline…
Ryanair
For large sporting equipment, golf clubs included, they are deemed unsuitable for cabin carriage on Ryanair flights. Therefore, those wishing to travel with their golf clubs on the Irish based airline must pay a fee, for items each weighing up to 20kg to be then carried in the hold.
You might want to make sure you travel light when it comes to your golf luggage as passages whose bag weighs over the 20kg allowance will be charged at the applicable excess baggage rate per kilo. See their table of fee here.
Jet2
There is a reason so many golfers book with Jet2 and it’s not just for their package golf breaks. The airline offers travellers the chance to travel with their golf clubs on their flights either as part of a pre-booked package or by adding it to an existing flight booking. It’s never too late to plan for a game of golf whilst jetting off for some sun with Jet2.
It is worth noting that there is a 22kg weight limit for golf bags. It is easy enough it include a golf travel bag to your flights online when booking your golf holiday. For those wanting to amend their booking, you can contact Jet2’s Pre-Travel Services team. Be warned that this could of course increase your travel costs.

Tui
When it comes to golf clubs or any type of sports equipment for that matter, Tui state that all passengers must call them as soon as possible on 0203 451 2688 to pre-book onto your flight. If you don’t pre-book, the airline may even refuse to carry your equipment when you get to the airport, so pick up the phone and dial, ASAP.
Tui also recommends that you insure your golf clubs for its replacement value and make sure it’s securely packed with zip compartments padlocked. If you’re looking for a safe and secure golf club travel bag check out our best of guide for 2025 here.
EasyJet
Anyone with their own pre-booked seat on the plane can have their golf clubs added to their booking. However, there is a maximum of 6 items of large sports equipment for any booking online. If you‘d like to add more than this, please contact EasyJet’s Customer Services Team. There’s no charge for this, but they’ll have to check available space.
This can be done online or via their mobile app whilst booking the flight initially or if you want to add it one head to the Manage Bookings section. If it’s a last minute addition to your flight, that’s okay too as all sports equipment luggage can be added during online check-in.
Up to 20kg is allowed for your golf clubs, so make sure to take out all those used water bottles, so you’ll have enough space for all the golf balls you’ll need.

British Airways
Golfing equipment packed in a protective golf bag, or hard case, can be taken as one item of your checked baggage allowance if your ticket includes checked baggage.
Your golf bag may include items such as a set of golf clubs, a golf umbrella, a dozen balls, golf tees and a pair of golf shoes.
You’ll need to get to the airport at least 90 minutes before your flight departs to check your golf bag in, for it to be more likely to travel with you.
As soon as you’ve booked your flight, you need to let the airline know you’re bringing your golf bag by filling in their email form and selecting ‘Baggage queries’ from the drop-down. If you need to pay for an extra checked bag, you’ll need to do this on Manage My Booking before you email us. Do this at least three days before your flight to make it more likely that your golf clubs will arrive at your destination with you.
W!ZZ Air
All passengers are able to travel with one set/piece of sports equipment for an additional fee. Although, they must pass certain restrictions and cannot exceed the size of 149 x 119 x 171 cm and a weight of 32 kg.
Sports equipment should be added during the booking creation or, later, at least 3 hours before the flight departure in your WIZZ Profile. To avoid missing out due to a lack of availability it is best practice to add this onto your booking when you are originally finalising your flights.
To be sure your golf bag is suitable for travel, it is best to contact Wizz Air before departure.
