De Vere Wokefield Park
- Par 72
- 6996 Yds
Tucked away in the beautiful Berkshire countryside, De Vere Wokefield Park is a true test, boasting a 6,996-yard high-spec layout that features 18 interesting holes.
A total of nine lakes are dotted around the course, adding difficulty and placing a premium on control. The natural water features also bring with them the sights and sounds of nature and are bustling with wildlife.
Standing on the first tee picking out your target ahead is standard practice for any golf course, but at Wokefield Park it isn’t long before you stop to take a look around you and realise how peaceful the surroundings are.
Each hole is cleverly designed and will need experience and concentration to read the subtle breaks in the greens.
The round comes to a close on the tricky par-5 18th which features a testing approach to a green guarded by bunkers and deep rough.
Large bunkers lie in wait, especially on the par-4 2nd, which is characterised best by the gaping sand trap that puts off big hitters going for it off the tee. Unless you want to spend more time in the sand than David Hasselhoff, I advise laying up.
The 9th – a dogleg par 4 – is also risk and reward with its tight tee shot and water. An iron off the tee is the safest option as position is key.
The next, which comes after a lengthy walk past the 18th Century Mansion House, is also a dog-leg par-4 and starts a run of challenging holes on the outside half.
The 12th is a tough par 3 and arguably one of the highlights. Played almost entirely over water, this is not for the feint of heart.
The round comes to a close on the trick par-5 18th which features a testing approach to a green guarded by bunkers and deep rough.
Wokefield Park is complemented by a range of on-site leisure facilities, too, including 223 Bedrooms, Azure Health and Fitness Club (including Gymnasium, Jacuzzi, Sauna and Indoor Swimming Pool), Golf Driving Range, Golf Pro Shop, Putting Green, Fishing, Croquet, Bar Games, Pool Table and Internet Cafe. All of these together give you the feel of driving through the grounds of a golf resort than a golf club and of course, at golf club prices!
