  • 18 Hole
  • Par 71
  • 6183 Yds

A classy, picturesque course which was designed by Henry Cotton in 1906, Beamish Park is not especially long, but is a challenging parkland course with some magnificent views. It is set in the beautiful Beamish Valley which is shared with the major tourist attraction Beamish Museum.

All visitors will be given a warm welcome.

The greens and fairways are kept in excellent condition which ensures that good scores can be achieved if you play it well.

Beamish Park is not a strenuous physical test, but buggies are available if necessary. At just over 6,000 yards it allows you to enjoy your game and it should take no more than four hours.

The 1st is a welcome gentle opener, a par 5 which stretches to 513 yards off the whites and is only a slight dog-leg but there is a ditch which often comes into play. An opening par is very much on the cards.

The 2nd at just 330 yards is also not to be scared of even though two bunkers guard the front of the green. But the first big test soon follows, the first short hole being a stiff 199 yards.

Perhaps the most difficult hole is the par4 15th as the drive needs to be precise onto the fairway in the valley which is protected by large trees to the left – if you can draw the ball then this is for you! The 2nd shot to the green needs to be accurate into the narrow entrance on the green – everything runs down the slope in front of you so hitting the green in regulation is the challenge.

There is a interesting combination to finish, a reachable par 5 for the stronger players followed by a cheeky short-ish two shotter allowing you every chance of strolling into the welcoming clubhouse for a pint with good memories of this fine parkland.
