Gailes Links Golf Club

Ayrshire

  • Par 71
  • 6903 Yds

The Ayrshire coastline is blessed with some truly outstanding golf courses, including Turnberry, Royal Troon and Old Prestwick, and Gailes Links should certainly not be missed on a visit to this golfing oasis on Scotland’s west coast.

The best thing about Gailes Links bar none is the land it occupies. Located on the hallowed links land between Troon and Irvine, there are very few parts of Britain that boast turf which is better to play golf on than here.

The course itself is a demanding 6,903-yard par-71 from the Championship tees, but is made more accessible for higher-handicap players by a series of forward tees.

The quality of Gailes Links was highlighted in 2012 when it hosted the Home Internationals, and it has also recently played host to Open Final Qualifying events.

The challenge starts with a steady stream of four consecutive par-4s followed by the signature hole, a par-5 dog-leg with out-of-bounds to the right and a green which is heavily guarded by sand.

Your round then eases up for a brief moment at the par-3 5th, but any respite is short lived, with a demanding stretch of par-4s laying in wait as you walk from the 6th green to the 7th tee.

With its undulating fairways and subtle borrows on the greens, Gailes Links provides an honest examination of your game over traditional seaside turf. It was labelled as ‘one of the world’s truly great tests of links golf’ by Sandy Lyle.

The quality of Gailes Links course was highlighted in 2012 when it hosted the Home Internationals, and it has also recently played host to Open Final Qualifying events.

The course is owned by Glasgow Golf Club – the ninth-oldest club in the world.

The club also has many special offers available through their website at various points throughout the year.

It would be a great shame to visit this part of the world and not play at Gailes Links, a course which showcases links golf at its best.
