This excellent 18-hole parkland course celebrated its centenary in 2010 and possesses a good mix of the old and the new.

With the magnificent backdrop of Gwrych Castle and stunning coastal views, it is easy to be transported back in time but the club has recently constructed new greens to the latest USGA standards and ensures it always remains up to date.

The testing greens are protected by a host of bunkers and a myriad pin positions also ensure maximum concentration and accuracy is required.

This well-maintained course is playable almost all year round and provides some fantastic facilities including an indoor teaching and swing area, large putting green and clubhouse with restaurant and lounge bar.

With the magnificent backdrop of Gwrych Castle and stunning coastal views, it is easy to be transported back in time at Abergele.

You’ll find a good mix of long and short holes at Abergele; the par-3 17th is gentle in comparison to some of the other courses in the locality.

Once you have achieved your par here, you can stand back and admire the distant views of Blackpool Pleasure Beach or on a good day, the Isle of Man.

The 18th is the signature hole where the tee is some way further up the hill behind the 17th green and the view from there is inspiring.

In comparison, the par 4s are challenging with strategically-placed bunkers to trap the unwary. Some of the greens like the undulating 15th will ensure you retain some memories of the course.

The four par 5s are special. The 3rd has hazards left and right making it a good driving hole and with its green cut into a ledge on the distant slope, it’s a worthy stroke index 2.

The 8th, once known as one of the longest holes in Wales, has now had its green redesigned to ensure you accurately place your approach shot. The 11th green is well protected by fairway bunkers and has an undulating green.

The 18th is the signature hole where the tee is some way further up the hill behind the 17th green and the view from there is inspiring.

The fairway races down the hillside in leaps and bounds and there is only a very narrow gap between a group of big trees on the left and dense woodland on the right.

You have to steer perilously close to those trees on the right as the fairway leans steeply to the left.

Playing short of the ditch and chipping to the pin often proves to be the better option. The new three-level green ensures a challenge to the end.

Once you have completed your round you will be able to reflect on your efforts while taking refreshments out on the balcony or in the magnificent clubhouse and absorb the friendly atmosphere at this thriving member’s club.
