All the Gear: Vertical Groove driver comes to the UK
I’ve been off getting married and stuff so was out of the loop a little bit on a few new releases.
Thankfully my colleagues have kept things up to date over the past week so you haven’t missed a thing.
And as we move towards US Open week we’ve been blessed with the latest scripting details from a few of the major manufacturers. More on that later.
Vertical Groove driver to be sold in the UK
We’ve been aware of the Vertical Groove driver for some time but seeing as it wasn’t available in the UK we didn’t go to town on the details.
But after the driver, used by John Daly, secured it’s first win on the Champions Tour it will now be distributed over here and the rest of Europe.
So how does it work? Well the vertical grooves are largely aimed at reducing spin. Too much spin can cost players distance.
The company, Vertical Groove Golf, say horizontal grooves are far less likely to produce side spin where as the vertical ones promote more forward rotation. Sounds reasonable to me.

Galvin Green add stylish polos to summer collection
Premium Swedish brand Galvin Green are best-known for their market-leading waterproofs but they also offer some incredibly stylish summer wear.
The new collection features 38 golf shirts aimed at improving breathability and comfort out on the course.
There’s also UV protection and moisture wicking properties that allow excess heat to dissipate quickly in the hottest playing conditions.

Garmin S60 GPS watch launched
It took me a while to come around to the idea of touch screen GPS watches but Garmin seem to be ahead of the game when it comes to this technology.
We recently tested the Approach G30 handheld which is not much bigger than a watch screen and we found the touch screen capability to be excellent.
The latest watch the S60 is a super-sleek offering which looks cool for wearing off the course and has all the features you need on it.
It switches from time-telling mode to offer integrated detailed course mapping and yardages in full colour. It includes 40,000 preloaded courses from around the world including free lifetime updates.
The Approach S60 is compatible with the new Garmin Golf app that lets users compete in weekly leaderboards and view other players’ rank, score, handicap and more. Warning. This watch is not cheap…
SRP: £399
