Rory commits to 2017 BMW PGA Championship
Rory McIlroy has confirmed he will take part in the 2017 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in late May.
The news comes as a boost for the European Tour following last year’s announcement over the introduction of the Rolex Series.
McIlroy, who will take on the new look West Course, will now be part of a star-studded line-up to launch the new format this summer.
McIlroy said: “The BMW PGA Championship is the first Rolex Series event and I’m really excited for that. I think it’s a huge thing for the European Tour and I want to be a part of it.
“You know I am a very proud member of the European Tour and I think it’s only right that I am there.
“BMW have been a huge supporter of golf for a number of years now and I’m happy to come back to Wentworth.”
Stephen Gibson, Chief Executive, Wentworth Club, said: “We are delighted that Rory has confirmed that he will be playing in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth this year, which will be the 37th time that the Club has hosted the flagship event.
“I have no doubt that this year’s Championship at Wentworth will be the best ever for players, supporters and our members alike.”
