Jim Furyk named U.S. Ryder Cup captain
Jim Furyk has been named the 2018 U.S. Ryder Cup captain as America looks to defend their title at Le Golf National in France.
The selection committee, which includes Davis Love III, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have opted for the 46-year-old ahead of three-time Presidents Cup winning captain Fred Couples despite Furyk remaining in the top 50 of the official golf world rankings.
Furyk, who claimed Major glory back in 2003 at the U.S. Open and shot the lowest ever recorded round (58) on the PGA Tour last year, was said to be a clear favourite after being an assistant to Davis Love III last September.
‘Mr. 58’ also remains a prominent part in the “Task Force” which was set up following a crushing European win over the USA in 2014 at Gleneagles which made it three victories on the bounce for Paul McGinley’s men.
Furyk holds nine Ryder Cup appearances to his name but doesn’t boast a brilliant record (W: 10 L: 20 H: 4).
Team USA will be hoping experience and a clear passion for the biennial competition leads the way in Paris as they defend their crown in just 20 months.
