We take a look at the gear which helped Matt Fitzpatrick to the biggest win of his career at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai

Matt Fitzpatrick what’s in the bag – The Englishman was sweating about his place in the world’s top 50 as the 2016 season drew to a close but he could rise into the top 30 after his victory in Dubai.

The Sheffield native was a shot behind fellow countryman Tyrrell Hatton with one hole to play and made a crucial birdie as Hatton could only manage a 6 on the closing par-5.

For Fitzpatrick it was quite a day; he became the youngest Englishman to win three European Tour titles, beating Sir Nick Faldo’s previous best from 1980 by 220 days.

And he picked up a cheque for €1,217,174 as well as a further €319,509 as part of the top 10 Bonus Pool.

In terms of equipment, Fitzpatrick does not have a deal with any one brand so has a bit of everyone on the go – with some fairly old clubs still in the bag.

For his previous two wins it was a Callaway Big Bertha Alpha 815 Double Black Diamond driver in the bag but this week we saw him using the TaylorMade M2.

He joins a long list of players including Rory McIlroy, Francesco Molinari and Brooks Koepka who have made the switch to the M2 driver.

Fitzpatrick uses a couple of Ping G fairway woods.

His iron set up hasn’t changed much since he turned pro with the Ping i25 3-5 and Ping S55 6-9 working fantastically well for him so far.

He uses a Ping Tour Gorge pitching wedge and a couple of Titleist Vokey SM5s for chipping and bunker play.

The putter is a trusty Yes G Groove Tracy II and he uses a Titleist Pro V1x golf ball.

His shoes and apparel are all Under Armour who he signed a deal with straight after turing pro.

It will be interesting to see if Fitzpatrick signs a long-term club deal with anyone in the off-season.

“I really hate to do it, because I use a Callaway driver from the start of last year pretty much through to about three weeks ago, and I had two wins with that driver and it was fantastic, very straight,” Fitzpatrick said.

“But I put in a TaylorMade in China for the last three rounds and then put it in the last three rounds at Nedbank and all four this week, and I’ve got to admit, it’s made a big difference, there’s no doubt about it.

“I don’t have a contract with anyone, so I kind of hate sort of giving them free publicity, but I’ve got to give it to them.

“The driver on the last was a little bit out of the toe and I think the fact that it had less spin on it, it went a long way and allowed me to get up in two easily.”
