Ryder Cup Gear Watch: Who is using new equipment at Hazeltine?
Ryder Cup gear watch – our equipment editor James Savage will be keeping a close eye on all 24 players to see who is using what.
The Ryder Cup often sees players using new gear. At Gleneagles last time out we saw Rory’s Nike Vapor Fly driver for the first time and Hunter Mahan’s FootJoy Hyperflex shoes.
There’s also a range of limited edition team-inspired shoes, head covers and even tee-pegs.
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Zach Johnson’s new, old driver
The 2015 Open Champion made the move from Titleist to PXG shortly after his victory at St Andrews.
But heading into this week Johnson decided to put his trusty Titleist 913 driver back in the bag.
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Jordan Spieth’s Team USA Vokey Wedges
Well it wasn’t just Jordan Spieth who was handed some special custom designs. Fellow Titleist staffers Jimmy Walker and Steve Stricker also got their hands on some thanks the the PGA Tour’s Vokey man Aaron Dill who has given us unique insight into what goes on behind the scenes at the big tournaments.

Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Rory’s putter headcover
Since Rory McIlroy switched to a new Scotty Cameron prototype putter he has won twice.
One of those victories was the Tour Championship which sealed the FedEx Cup and a $10m bonus.
What a putter cover… pic.twitter.com/n2zqSkymy0

Poulter was even caught in the act on this occasion.
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Brooks Koepka TaylorMade M2 driver
Another Nike player dabbling with new equipment after the brand announced they are pulling out of the hardware game.
Not a huge surprise to see the American rookie plumping for the TaylorMade M2. Watch out for some serious bombs being dropped with this at Hazeltine.
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Team Europe’s Galvin Green gear
Sorry America but you’re one down already. The Galvin Green outerwear suits are simple but stylish and classy.
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Rickie Fowler’s Team USA Puma high-tops
He’s been rocking them on tour for a few months now. Expect to hear them mentioned by the Sky Sports commentary team with every shot.
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Dustin Johnson’s Team USA Adidas Boost 360
The long-time Adidas staffer is one of a few players who will be sporting these over the course of this week. They do look pretty cool (even if they are in support of Team USA).
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Rafa Cabrera-Bello’s Team Europe FootJoy’s
They won’t jump out on to your TV screens like the American offerings but if you look very closely you will see a European flag on the heel of the Spaniard’s DryJoys tour. Normally a HyperFlex man, he was obviously keen to take advantage of the MyJoys customisation service…
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Team Europe sporting new FootJoy’s
We’re still waiting for details of the new launch from FootJoy (we believe to be called the Pro SL) but Ryder Cup players Lee Westwood and… wait a minute, Rafa Cabrera-Bello (how many pairs does he need?) are seen here watching Danny Willett tee off in his DryJoys Casual – which we believe the Pro SL to be replacing.
Ryder Cup Gear Watch – Tee pegs, ball markers and head covers
Those companies specialising in customised and branded golf gear must live for the Ryder Cup…
Tee-pegs…
Head covers…
Ball markers…
