Clarke aims for a team double in Canada
Lancashire’s Oliver Clarke will be aiming for a double team success when he helps England defend the Canadian International Junior Challenge later this month.
Clarke was a member of last year’s winning team and this year will be making the defence alongside Leicestershire’s Coby Cartwright, Staffordshire’s Gian-Marco Petrozzi and Lincolnshire’s Billy Spooner.
‘England has an impressive record in this event with six team wins in the last eight years’
The championship takes place at the Wildfire, Douro-Dummer, from September 14-17. The three best scores in each round will count towards the team total.
The individual winner will also be recognised.
The England team:
Coby Cartwright, 17, (Cosby) helped England to a clean sweep in last year’s U16 home internationals and won the north of England U16 title. This season he was 11th in the Fairhaven Trophy.
Oliver Clarke, 17, (Hillside) won the U17 trophy at the Irish boys’ amateur and was third overall. He reached the match play stages of the English men’s amateur championship and tied ninth in the Sir Henry Cooper Junior Masters.
Gian-Marco Petrozzi, 18, (Trentham) represented England in the Boys’ Home Internationals and has had top ten finishes in the Carris Trophy, the Welsh stroke play, the Irish boys’ open and the Darwin Salver.
Billy Spooner, 17, (Woodhall Spa) was also in England’s team at the Boys’ Home Internationals and has had top ten finishes in this year’s Fairhaven Trophies and the South East of England links championship.
