15-year-old Joseph Amer crowned American Golf Junior Champion
15 year-old Joseph Amer has been crowned 2015 American Golf Junior Champion, after fending off stiff competition from the UK and Ireland’s best young golfers.
The final took place at Ping’s headquarters at the Gainsborough Golf Club in Lincolnshire.
Playing off 14, Joseph came home three ahead of his closest rival with an impressive 40 points. As well as the title and trophy, he took home a G30 Driver and Cadence putter courtesy of event sponsor Ping.
More than 400 young golfers took part in six qualifying events held across the UK and Ireland this summer. Joseph qualified at Broome Manor Golf Club, becoming one of just 36 golfers to make it through to the final.
Comment: Why the Walker Cup is a must watch
Joseph commented: “To win the American Golf Junior Championship is beyond pleasing, because I haven’t played in a tournament like it before.
I hope I can play in more tournaments like this in the future as it provided such a great experience. I’d also like to congratulate the other players and wish them luck in the future.”
Eva Kenny from Swords was the leading girl on the day and took the American Golf Girl’s Junior Champion title.
13-year-old Eva, who made the final through the qualifying event held at her home club of Roganstown and plays off 33, claimed victory with 35 points.
All proceeds from the event have been donated to the Golf Foundation, American Golf’s official charity.
