It was a classic driver from the 1990s and now Callaway have re-invented the Great Big Bertha for the age of multi-material and adjustable drivers.
It effectively replaces three models in Callaway’s driver line- up the Big Bertha, Alpha 815 and V Series.
It offers the same weight track around the skirt as the Big Bertha but with significant weight savings; has all the performance benefits of the Alpha 815 but adds forgiveness; and is the same weight as the V Series but with higher MOI and a lower centre of gravity.
Callaway have optimised the multi-material chassis to generate more clubhead speed through aerodynamics and a wide range of weight classes to suit every swing type.
The R*MOTO technology provides the structure for a thinner face which leads to high ball speeds on centre and off-centre hits.
They’ve also added adjustable perimeter weighting on the perimeter of the head for ball flight and dispersion control with exceptional forgiveness.
The Great Big Bertha fairway wood utilises Callaway’s fastest fairway wood technology with the Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup.
The ball speeds are high on centre hits and off-centre hits, and there’s also a bigger head and Modern Warbird Sole which makes it easy to hit.
What they say
Chip Brewer, Chief Executive Officer at Callaway Golf, said: The original Great Big Bertha was iconic, it was the driver to own. The new Great Big Bertha will create a similar legacy, it will step-change performance for everyone.
Dr. Alan Hocknell, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Callaway Golf, said:
The combined key technologies of the Great Big Bertha, married to simple adjustability, will unlock previously unseen performance for all levels of golfer, allowing everyone the opportunity to increase driver distance without having to compromise playability.
