The Masters Niggle: Who to put your money on?

The NCG team give their picks for who could be worth backing at Augusta in the 2015 Masters

It’s time for the first major of the year and everyone loves The Masters don’t they?

There’s something about Augusta that really gets the juices flowing.

Another thing about The Masters is we all have opinions on who will go well.

Rookies don’t win, the Par-3 content winner won’t land the Green Jacket, it suits left-handers, you need to draw the ball… all common considerations when it comes to picking a winner.

We can think long and hard about it, study the form, the records but when it comes down to it there’s a huge amount of luck and guess work involved.

We’ve been discussing it at NCG towers and here are our picks including a favourite, a solid each-way bet and a rank outsider who could go well.

James Savage

Favourite: Jordan Spieth (12/1) – In great form and will have learned from last year’s near miss.
Each-way bet: Ian Poulter (80/1) – Some good recent signs and has a decent Augusta record.
Rank outsider: Martin Kaymer (100/1) – Not his best track but ridiculous odds for a two-time major winner.

Damien Wilde

Favourite: Jason Day (15/1) – Been knocking on the door for a while now.
Each-way bet: Sergio Garcia (50/1) – It’s the hope that kills you…
Rank outsider: Kevin Na (150/1) – More than capable of a top five finish.
Patrick Reed (40/1) – Loves the big stage and has the game to win" Tom Lenton

Favourite: Jason Day (15/1) – Under the radar recently but is due a first Major.
Each-way bet: Justin Rose (45/1) – Never missed a cut at Augusta and has proved he can go low.
Rank outsider: Ryan Moore (100/1) – A previous low amateur and in decent form. Great value bet.

Jordan Elliott

Favourite: Rory McIlroy (13/2) – Head and shoulders above the rest when in top form.
Each-way bet: Patrick Reed (40/1) – Loves the big stage and has the game to win.
Rank outsider: Martin Kaymer (100/1) – Not the best record but is a proven Major champion.

Andy Kenworthy

Favourite: Henrik Stenson (22/1) – Still in great form and is Rory’s biggest threat in my opinion.
Each-way bet: Justin Rose (45/1) – Due a second major and knows his way around this track.
Rank outsider: Angel Cabrera (125/1) – Been there and done it and is still capable of causing an upset.

Daniel Cooper

Favourite: Rory McIlroy (13/2) – The appearance of Tiger Woods has taken some pressure off.
Each-way bet: Brandt Snedeker (45/1) – Is back to his best and can really cash-in around the greens
Rank outsider: Graeme McDowell (150/1) – These odds seem very generous to me despite not much Augusta form.
